Actively Learn is a K-12 digital reading platform that helps teachers transform students into deep, critically thinking, and engaged readers.
All of us are inspired and driven by our organization's mission: to enable every student to learn deeply.
We are functionally and culturally a startup but have the financial backing, benefits, and security of a much larger company.
This is an opportunity to join our small but growing engineering team, help shape our burgeoning engineering culture, and play a critical role in helping us scale and grow our platform and transform the reading and educational lives of even more students.
We have grown our user base and revenue between 2 - 2.5x per year every year for the last 5 years and are now expanding our international presence.
We use a two week sprint cycle, Asana to manage our backlog, Github to manage our codebase, and code reviews to ensure rigor and quality. Our engineering team is small, so each engineer has technical ownership of large, critical areas of our stack and has opportunities to work on and build skills in every area of the stack including infrastructure, backend, frontend, and data.
Engineering is highly collaborative both internally and with the rest of the company. We work tightly with the business, content, customer success, and sales teams to ensure we've captured and prioritized their product needs and that we're providing them with the data they need to drive their functions.
We're building a machine-learning based assistive auto-grading service. We're tackling interesting scaling challenges around large datasets and international expansion. We're migrating our frontend to React.js.
You would be helping us architect and drive our frontend React migration.
You would be helping us wrangle, pipeline, analyze, and tease insights out of the quickly growing body of data we collect to both empower teachers in their work and help inform decisions across Actively Learn's teams.
You would be helping us architect and build from scratch a new product we will be adding to our portfolio in the next 18 months.
We are functionally and culturally a startup but with the secure financial backing of our parent company. Culturally, we move quickly, deploy often, and collaborate closely both internally and with customers.
We offer a matching 401(k) plan up to 3% of compensation.
We provide subsidized health, dental, and vision coverage.
We are located on the top floor of the historic Masin building (Impact Hub) in Pioneer Square, Seattle. Our offices all have giant windows facing west and are surrounded by fantastic restaurants, pubs, and art galleries.
25 total vacation days per year comprised of 6 company holidays, 9 floating holidays, and 10 paid vacation days (15 paid vacation days starting the 5th year of employment).
Impact Hub Seattle, which hosts our offices, provides snacks in the form of Kind bars and fruit every 1-2 days.
Well-behaved pets are welcome and there are pet snacks in the communal kitchen.
Washington State family leave benefits (maternity/paternity) kick in January 1st, 2020. You can take up to 16 weeks of paid time off – whether to care for new children, sick relatives, or recover from an illness. Employees will receive weekly pay that equals up to 90 percent of their regular salary, with a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $1,000 per payment.
Our parent company is in the greater New York area and there will be opportunities to travel to the main office.
