AcuityMD
Nearly 6,000 new medical devices get approved by the FDA every year, adding to the the tens of thousands of products interacting with patients every day.
Medical technology improves and personalizes patient care, but it also brings complexity to healthcare providers, their patients, and the companies that serve them.
AcuityMD uses data and software to help teams collaborate around the complex relationships they have with the users of medical technologies: doctors. Our platform empowers medical technology companies to see how their products are used, understand why outcomes vary, and identify opportunities where physicians or sites of care can better serve their patients.

Why join us?
Our seed round was led by one of the best VC firms in the valley - Benchmark. We have the opportunity to completely change how an entire industry works.
Recent user quotes:
This is the biggest game changer for me in the last 10 years... every rep should use this, and only this, for their 30, 60, and 90 day plans
What I can do in 10 seconds would have taken me a whole day...literally I've driven across the state to meet with a nursing manager to understand who is doing certain procedures at a hospital
We're working with 15+ paid enterprise customers and are rolling out large expansions. Expansion opportunities are on the short-term horizon with 200+ seat licenses, with yearly revenue per-contract in the 6 figures.
When building a Relationship Management software, the elephant in the room is SFDC. Luckily for us, SFDC doesn't solve the problems that we do. Half of our install base already uses SFDC, but they don't store records at the Doctor-level, only the Account level.
We're building a product that our users love, not another enterprise SaaS purchase that comes down from the top. We're at 100 weekly active users and growing quickly.
Engineering at AcuityMD
Our engineering team is small and moves quickly. As a startup in its early stages, we're more focused on getting things done and building MVP-level products quickly and maintaining a quick feedback loop from our users directly to product enhancements.
We've got specialists in Data Engineering and Frontend, but everyone can pinch-hit and work across the stack.
We work in 1-week sprints, with 15-min standups each day.
CRM's can't do this
The typical CRM data structure looks like a tree, with a 1:many mapping of Account
-> Contact
. The healthcare industry doesn't work that way. Doctors very often work at many Facilities, meaning that Account
-> Contact
relationship is many:many
Handling that complexity and layering data on top of it is the foundation of our platform. Maintaining a many:many mapping as the core of your relational model comes with its own challenges, which is precisely why the typical CRM can't solve this problem - its hard.
U.S. Healthcare Data. All of it.
We compile and aggregate data on every doctor and facility in the US, down to the individual procedure. Our data comes from our customers, scraping websites, public datasets, and private data vendors, and we are tasked with linking it all up to give a 360 degree view of every doctor. Some challenges we've tackled in the past include:
- Develop a clustering algorithm to link messy facility address data to a single brick-and-mortar address.
- Entity Resolving the entire PubMed dataset against NPI, so that we can find which doctors have published in specific journals or on research topics.
- Building a 20GB elasticsearch index for lightning-fast faceted querying
- Designing an extrapolation query that patches together different data sources to project procedural volume for every doctor in the US
From complexity, simplicity
Targeting doctors for your product requires pulling every page in the playbook, which means searching for targets with an angle that might give them an edge in the market.
- For example, show me every site of care at this Group Purchasing Organization, where I have sales history for these 10 model numbers ordered by estimated future opportunity.
- Show me every doctor who has been trained by one of our product users in their fellowship or residency training program, stack ranked by how much volume they do for this set of 25 procedure codes
Our users range from first-time Sales reps to VP of sales who have been in the industry for 35 years, and even for the veterans, we're unearthing insights by synthesizing the vast, complex, and overwhelming data into a simple dashboard.
Design an
Amazon
style recommendation algorithm to recommend similar doctors based on thousands of data points.Deliver a federated API infrastructure using Hasura & GraphQL to handle faceted search/filter/sort/aggregate queries at scale across multiple data sources.
Building our iOS / Android app from scratch
Use Temporal (temporal.io) to design an ETL architecture to handle millions of rows of updates from 20+ data sources. Filtering those updates by user's saved filter criteria to deliver notifications via Slack, Email, MS Teams.
