Agora is a materials management and supply chain platform for modern construction companies
We've raised $4.2 million in seed funding from 8VC, Index Ventures, and other prominent leaders in Silicon Valley.
Our team is made up of top engineers from Microsoft, Pinterest, Facebook, Google, Stitch Fix, and Patreon.
Our beta program is oversubscribed by customers - which is why we're hiring fast!
Our flat company structure empowers employees to act like owners in creating a product that transforms the construction industry.
Engineering and product are highly coupled at Agora. Our small team is dynamic, working across the stack to meet various product goals. As an example, it’s not uncommon for a backend engineer to participate in a user interview. With that said, we have tons of interesting challenges to solve and the responsibilities of the team over the next few years will change drastically.
Our current customer approach is high-touch and we work closely with our early adopter program to ensure we’re delivering software that solves core supply chain problems. We work on a two week sprint cycle for feature development and our deliverables are based on a team driven product roadmap that reflects sales-level objectives.
As an early stage company, we’re looking for engineers that can both handle uncertainty well and help shape our development processes into the future.
Construction makes up $1.3 trillion of our nation’s economy. Globally, approximately $10 trillion - equivalent to 13% of global GDP - is spent on construction-related goods and services every year, and the sector employs 7% of the world’s working population. However, large projects across the construction sector typically take 20% longer to finish than scheduled and are up to 80% over budget. In fact, since 1947, productivity in US manufacturing, retail, and agriculture has grown by as much as 1,500%, whilst productivity in construction has barely increased at all.
Some of the big technical challenges we deal with are realtime collaborative workflow tools, OCR-based document ingestion, building a recommendation engine and a dynamic pricing solution.
Marketplace tooling to allow for collaborative bidding on jobs across many suppliers. This is an example of a “workflow” project which cuts across a number of services and end-users.
Creating a field app that lets Foremen and Project Managers track and create material orders efficiently. This is a combination “workflow” and “systems” project, which becomes even more interesting when dealing with connectivity challenges on jobsites.
Mapping of generic products to specific product recommendations. Taking our parts database and existing customer data to create sensible generics that can match to real-world items based on availability and cost. This is an example of a “systems” project which cuts across service design, data architecture and business strategy.
Construction hasn't increased in productivity since 1947. Evolving this industry will require us to think independently, adapt as we learn more, and execute excellently. This drives everything our team does, from debating the highest priority features to develop, to operating with full transparency in team meeting to ensure we all have full context, to thinking through how concepts from how iphones are manufactured might apply to make our customers happy.
We offer all employees an uncapped number of PTO days to use as they see fit.
Our bright and spacious office in SOMA is easily commutable from anywhere in the Bay Area by BART and MUNI.
Our team takes the time to eat together and share conversation [often leading to impromptu lunch and learns!] most days. We also host movie nights, BBQs, and other events at our office on a regular basis.
We offer generous compensation and benefits packages including medical, vision, and dental insurance.
We care about productivity, not hours. Most of our team is in the office from 10am-6pm and we have a flexible policy in case employees want to take a work from home day.
We provide employees with the ability to use pre-tax dollars on qualified commuter-related expenses.
