Agora is the materials management platform for modern construction companies
Why join us?
We've raised $45 million in funding from Tiger Global, 8VC, Index Ventures, Tishman Speyer, Suffolk Construction, Jerry Yang, and other prominent leaders in Silicon Valley.
Our team is made up of top engineers from Microsoft, Pinterest, Facebook, Google, Salesforce, Optoro, and IBM Watson.
We're now processing +$3,000,000 a week in orders on the platform - which is why we're hiring fast!
Our flat company structure empowers employees to act like owners in creating a product that transforms the construction industry.
Engineering at Agora Systems
Engineering and Product are highly coupled at Agora. Our team is dynamic, working across the stack to meet various product goals —it’s not uncommon for a backend engineer to participate in a user interview. With that said, we have tons of interesting challenges to solve and the responsibilities of the team over the next few years will change drastically.
Our current customer approach is high-touch and we work closely with our users to ensure we’re delivering software that solves core supply chain problems. We work on a two week sprint cycle for feature development and our deliverables are based on a team driven product roadmap that reflects sales-level objectives.
Construction makes up $1.3 trillion of our nation’s economy. Globally, approximately $10 trillion - equivalent to 13% of global GDP - is spent on construction-related goods and services every year, and the sector employs 7% of the world’s working population. However, large projects across the construction sector typically take 20% longer to finish than scheduled and are up to 80% over budget. In fact, since 1947, productivity in US manufacturing, retail, and agriculture has grown by as much as 1,500%, whilst productivity in construction has barely increased at all.
Some of the big technical challenges we deal with are realtime collaborative workflow tools and building a recommendation engine and a dynamic pricing solution.
Marketplace tooling to allow for collaborative bidding on jobs across many suppliers. This is an example of a “workflow” project which cuts across a number of services and end-users.
Building our field app that lets Foremen and Project Managers track and create material orders 30x faster than they do now. This is a combination “workflow” and “systems” project, which becomes even more interesting when dealing with connectivity challenges on jobsites.
Mapping of generic products to specific product recommendations. Taking our parts database and existing customer data to create sensible generics that can match to real-world items based on availability and cost. This is an example of a “systems” project which cuts across service design, data architecture and business strategy.
Working at Agora Systems
Collaborative. Passionate. Supportive. Values-based.
Our culture is rooted in our 9 core values - diversity is one of them. It is central to how we think about building top-performing teams, which starts with hiring. For each new role, we design a plan for how we're going to build interest amongst a diverse group of candidates, and are always experimenting with new tactics for doing that.
Diversity, transparency, accountability are 3 values that we uphold across the employee lifecycle. For all new hires, managers at Agora design customized onboarding plans, which include the opportunity to meet all team members within their first week. All employees then have bi-weekly 1-1 meetings with their managers that fit a set structure that's designed to encourage bi-directional feedback. Additionally, we encourage bi-weekly 1-1s across the departments. We also have monthly events at the team and company level, designed to allow employees to share about themselves, collaborate, and have fun together.
We offer and support mentorship opportunities from across our network.
We offer all employees an uncapped number of PTO days to use as they see fit.
We once had a bright and spacious office in SOMA, easily commutable from anywhere in the Bay Area by BART and MUNI. We went completely remote due to Covid-19 and have been enjoying it ever since.
Our team is currently spread across the US. In the future we plan to remain remote-first but explore a hybrid-office approach with hubs initially in SF and Austin.
Our team takes the time to eat together and share conversation [often leading to impromptu lunch and learns!] most days. We also host movie nights, BBQs, and other events at our office on a regular basis.
We offer generous compensation and benefits packages including medical, vision, and dental insurance.
We care about productivity, not hours. Most of our team is in the office from 10am-6pm and we have a flexible policy in case employees want to take a work from home day.
We provide employees with the ability to use pre-tax dollars on qualified commuter-related expenses.
Work from Home
Our team is entirely remote at present and we'll be moving to a remote-first/hybrid setup in the future with offices in both SF and Austin.
