Air is a productivity tool focused on media management. Creative teams love our product because it helps them capture and organize the photos and videos that drive their business.
We refer to the product as a “whiteboard for the creative process” because it immediately increases productivity for end users like brand marketing managers, content coordinators, and social media managers. Air’s wide range of customers reinforce the idea that the world is visually driven, and that all industries now depend on images and videos in everyday operations. Air is currently used by over 150 teams in consumer products, goods and services, sports, media, retail, and hospitality. At its core, Air believes every company needs a space to think visually.

Investors - Air has brought on a group of top-tier investors.
We just closed a $12M Series A led by Tiger Global in August of this year. Previously, Lerer Hippeau Ventures led our Seed round. Additional investors include executives and board members from TimeWarner Cable, Comcast, Conde Nast, Este Lauder, Glamsquad, and Goldman Sachs, and early stage tech investment firms like WndrCo, R&R Ventures, and an investor from SV Angel.
Customer Traction - Our product works and our customers love it.
Since launching our pilot program in the spring of 2019, we've grown to ~$400k in ARR. We've retained 90%+ of customers we've acquired, and almost all of these customer accounts have grown 5x or more. We're confident we've established product-market fit, and we are now poised to launch a massive customer acquisition and growth strategy fueled by our most recent fundraise.
Founders - Before Air, Shane Hedge (CEO) founded a startup called Swap while at Stanford, worked in media & technology investing at HPS Partners, and was Chief Digital Strategist for Revolt TV in L.A. Tyler Strand (CTO), also launched a startup at Stanford, hostess.fm, which he sold to SFX Entertainment. Most recently he worked as founding partner and director of product at Postlight.
Stack - Air prefers to adopt the latest technologies across our stack whenever possible. Our mobile app is built in React Native, with specific modules written in Swift or Java for performance. Our web app shares much of the mobile app's networking code. Our API runs entirely on AWS Lambda using the Serverless framework, allowing us to scale on demand in response to traffic without managing infrastructure. We transcode all our videos in house with ffmpeg on Elastic Beanstalk, and we serve video with HLS to our client applications.
Our engineering team is interdisciplinary and collaborative. Each team member owns a specific piece of our technology, but they constantly work together to solve problems and define integration points across the platform. Everyone works closely with our designers on implementing new features, and our product managers to understand timelines and scope
We typically follow a kanban process and believe generally in a lowercase agile approach to software development. We have weekly development team meetings to align priorities and communicate daily in person and over Slack to stay on track. We use Notion to track progress and Github to manage code.
Our most interesting technical challenges come from pushing the boundaries of the latest technologies without adding unnecessary delays or complexity to our development. We are building one of the first performant media-oriented applications on the web, which often means operating on the bleeding edge of open source projects and contributing back when we can.
Build a cloud video transcoder that takes user generated mov files and produces a web-optimized output ready for streaming on any device.
Re-design our search implementation to make finding a single photo in a library of 1M+ easy.
Implement in-browser video editing, so that users can trim and split their videos to avoid downloading an entire high-res file when they only need a small chunk
We care deeply about learning new technologies and building great products for our users. We’re a team of designers, developers, artists, videographers, and friends who love answering problems together. We're fascinated by the power of video to transform and we want to increase everyone's ability to work with this medium. Our first year in business has been extremely fulfilling because we've had the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with one another.
We believe in the value of time off to refuel. We close for 1 week around Thanksgiving, 2 weeks around New Year's, and we give frequent 4-day weekends around the national holidays. We also ask everyone to take at least 10 days off of their choosing to recharge.
We've been known to over-order Chinese food when working late...
We love pets! As long as no one on the team has an allergy, feel free to bring in your buddy!
Full health, dental, and vision coverage.
These days, we're working from all over the world! We hope to reconvene in Brooklyn sometime soon, but when needed you can work remotely.
From game nights to happy hours to dinner dates, we are big believers in hang out time.
Our core hours start around 10:30AM EST, but we're flexible when you have another appointment or meeting.
We will match 50% of any employee's donation, up to $1000 from Air per employee per calendar year.
