  • AKASA has an experienced and complementary founding team with the following backgrounds:

    • CEO was previously a partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley managing $10B in assets, where he helped start and build their healthcare investment team. He worked on almost 20 investments totaling over $250M in deal value. Started the company after discovering a massive healthcare opportunity that was largely unaddressed by, and unknown to, strong technology teams

    • CTO is a CS PhD from Stanford, where he focused on AI in Sebastian Thrun’s lab, and has worked on a wide variety of cutting-edge AI applications for over 15 years. He started an AI company out of his PhD, sold it to Google and worked on Google’s AI research team. He then started a cloud computing company, and sold it to Udacity, where he was previously head of AI

    • VP Eng is a Berkeley CS grad, former Google engineer, and was on the founding team at Counsyl (a genomics healthcare company). He helped grow Counsyl from 6 people to over 500 people and an acquisition last summer for ~$400M. He previously led a team of almost 100 people at Counsyl, and built most of their systems from scratch; his healthcare experience from Counsyl is very relevant to the problem we’re solving

    • VP Ops is a former partner from the Advisory Board Company (recently acquired for $2.6B) and Optum, two of the most influential incumbents in healthcare operations. An industry leader who has spoken at numerous national conferences, he was the youngest person to rise to a Partner role at the firm. He has deep operational expertise and relationships in healthcare, having previously worked with over 125 health systems

  • We’re looking for experienced people with a passion for technology and/or revenue cycle operations who believe that improving healthcare begins with better operational processes. There’s a unique sense of home and family at AKASA and much of it is driven by our team - from the bottom up you might say. In our remote environment, we have dedicated slack channels for sharing pictures of pets and another for sharing pictures of kids. We also have a highlights channel where folks can share their highlights from each week and they can be either work related or personal. Meetings are routinely conducted with kids or dogs on laps and there have been any number of instances where team members or the company has sent care packages or meal gift cards when someone has had to care for a sick parent or family member. We also prioritize making time to come together for team building activities that include everything from chocolate tastings to painting and building gingerbread houses for the holidays. We support one another as people as well as supporting one another as colleagues.
