Assembled
A modern workforce management platform built for rapidly scaling support teams. We help forecast demand, build and manage team schedules, and uncover insights to improve operations. We work with amazing companies that treat support as a fundamental lever in their businesses including GoFundMe, Harry's, Slack, and Stripe.
Why join us?
Customer support and, more generally, operations (things like underwriting, back-office, etc) keep companies running on a day-to-day basis. In particular, these involve logistical problems that require some amount of domain expertise to fully appreciate and understand. If you like solving
unsexy
problems in overlooked areas (subject-matter-wise and geography-wise), you'll be right at home with our team. Our team has a depth and breadth of experience across business, sales, engineering and product. Among other things we've: run business functions within fast-growing startups (e.g. Stripe), built household-name software (at e.g. Asana, Google, and Stripe), and contributed to major open source projects (e.g. Ruby on Rails).
We're well capitalized, having raised a to-be-announced seed round of $3.1m from top investors. We also have a number of marquee paid customers that we're building around, including Casper, GoFundMe, Slack, and Stripe. It's still very early days, but we've see lots of signs that there's a big problem to be solved.
Engineering at Assembled
Our engineering team is fundamentally focused on shipping code that solves customers' problems. We deeply involve users in our product planning and, correspondingly, engineers participate in all stages of customer development from sales to support.
Some processes: - We (the engineering team) visit our users. We've travelled around the world to places like London, Kiev, Kuala Lumpur as well as state-side to places like Cincinnati, Salt Lake City, and San Diego.
Frontend We're rewriting our calendar component, which was previously built off a heavyweight visualization library, to facilitate a better experience for managing and viewing schedules. The new component will, among other things, efficiently handle a large number of events, allow drag-and-drop and other GCal-esque conveniences, and support zooming in and out by time scale.
Backend We have a mission-critical webhook integration that allows end-users to send us anonymized ticket event data. Our endpoint needs to be highly available—too many dropped events can cause webhook publishers to be disabled automatically. We're building a queue / consumer-based system where downstream breakages won't prevent a successful response and unprocessed events can be easily replayed.
Machine Learning The industry standard for calculating staffing requirements relies on a hundred-year-old formula called Erlang-C. Though quite elegant, it is only tied to real-world data through a handful of parameters. We're building a machine-learning based add-on to ensure its predictions can be compared to and tuned against operationally important metrics like response time, service level, and utilization.
Working at Assembled
You’ll be a great fit at Assembled if:
- You have a strong sense of ownership and take pride in your work
- You’re resourceful and can drive to results in a highly uncertain environment
- You have a growth mindset and are intellectually curious
We care a lot about the success of Assembled, but we don’t measure this in terms of weekly hours work (although we do burn the midnight oil when we need to!). We strongly believe Assembled can have outsized success, while giving teammates space to take care of themselves along the way.
