AssemblyAI
At AssemblyAI, we're building the Top Rated Speech-to-Text API for Developers. We're backed by leading investors in Silicon Valley like Y Combinator, John and Patrick Collison (Stripe), Nat Friedman (GitHub), and Daniel Gross. Customers use our API to transcribe phone calls, meetings, videos, podcasts, and other types of media. Our accurate transcripts are used to power features like visual voicemail, call analytics, closed captioning, meeting summaries, and a slew of other features. We're growing fast, and processing millions of API calls per day in production.
Why join us?
We're a team of low-ego, mission-driven people, who want to help bring the power of AI to developers and entrepreneurs across the world.
We have some big but really fun challenges ahead of us. Our machine learning models serve millions of requests per day and that scale is growing fast. We are a no-downtime API company with new features being deployed daily!
You want to play in many areas. At Assembly, we like to wear many hats, our engineers aren't just coders. We own the whole lifecycle of software development, from customer to deployment to operations!
Engineering at AssemblyAI
Our engineering team we practice two-week sprints to structure our time to work on features, bugfixes, tech debt, and proof of concepts. We start with a sprint kickoff where we review our progress, discuss our priorities, groom tasks, and commit to deliverables. Our engineers work closely with customer success, marketing/sales, and ML researchers to shape out new features and develop them autonomously or with the larger team when necessary. We use a standard pull request process to ensure quality code. Once a change has passed our checks, our engineers deploy directly to production with a merge commit.
We've developed an API backed by deep learning models that handle millions of requests per day. Scaling deep learning models is a fairly new problem space with lots of room for innovation.
Some challenges we deal with are... - Decreasing scale-out time with very large deep learning models. - Reducing the cost of adding additional models to our pipeline - Eliminating noisy neighbors in our shared pipelines (non-enterprise)
Realtime Transcription API 2.0 - A greenfield version of our real-time transcription API. We're building this new API starting from scratch to provide session-based transcription via WebSockets to our customers.
Dashboards 2.0 - We're doing a major overhaul of our customer and admin dashboards. We'll be providing deeper insights and more user actions to our customers and internal team.
ML Inference Pipeline 2.0 - We've learned a lot about scaling ML models. We're taking these lessons and making our transcription and text analysis processes faster, more balanced, and more responsive to traffic spikes.
