Internet search has not seen significant step change since Google launched in 1998. Search engines understand how keywords relate to links (search) and how links relate to one another (PageRank). However, users are not searching for links, they are searching for information.

Atomic is rebuilding search at the cutting edge of NLU, using neurosymbolic techniques that can disambiguate and index information across all domains. Our implementation will be the world’s first system with true natural language understanding.

Atomic will reindex the web’s informational content to create a hyper-charged search experience, allowing for many orders of magnitude more search complexity than anything on the market today.

Atomic will also generate new pathways for exploration on the web using its deep contextual understanding of domains and their information. Think Wikipedia’s link rabbit holes, but for the entire web. Atomic’s mission is to build the learning engine for the world - to enable billions more autodidacts to flourish.

Engineering at Atomic Search

Engineering team and processes

Atomic operates a high-agency engineering team where we all have clearly assigned projects and meet once a day, Monday through Saturday, for a 20 minute standup.

We try to limit unnecessary face-to-face by writing clean, well-documented code within a functional paradigm.

Technical Challenges
  • Building a generalizable system for indexing and searching against information across the set of all domains.

  • Constructing the world’s first natural language compiler

  • Building the world’s best and largest symbolics library

  • Leveraging our own symbolics library to pioneer new neurosymbolic approaches to data storage and retrieval

  • Solving web-scale semantic search

Projects you might work on
  • Implementing arbitrary length document coreference into a live knowledge graph database.

  • Building neural layers on top of existing symbolics libraries.
