The technical problems we are attacking range from 3D graphics to data mining and we are building a team that has the breadth to take on these varied challenges.

You will help to recruit talented passionate engineers who are a match for our culture. You will manage this team as it scales. You’ll work closely with the CTO to maintain code quality and with the Head of Product to realize the product vision.

The role is remote, but the team is centralized around New York City. This is a full-time, salaried role with a competitive equity package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and mentor the engineering teams.
  • Create opportunities for folks to learn and grow through workshops about software design and regular one on one meetings.
  • Collect and disseminate feedback and promote practices and patterns that improve our ability to deliver value. Promote a positive company culture.
  • Team Leader. Set and measure goals for the engineering teams. Fast-track development by lending your eyes to critical projects and issues. Help systematically balance competing priorities, and support communication between developers and product / operations teams.
  • Recruiting. Identify and hire great engineering candidates as we triple the size of our engineering team over the next year.
  • Technical Partnerships. Coordinate with external companies’ engineering teams and our internal Director of Partnerships to support integration development.
  • Product Vision. Collaborate with product and design team to find the best path for delivering value.

About You

You’re probably a great fit for this role if you are:

Entrepreneurial - You see ambiguity and obstacles as opportunities to build new solutions. You are a self-starter and problem solver. You take ownership of initiatives and are proactive about exploring opportunities. You balance that by knowing when to ask for help.

Collaborative - You love working as part of a team. You appreciate give and take in an exchange and believe every voice has something to offer.

A Leader - You mentor as well as manage. You influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward team goals.

An Architect - You build systems that can be easily understood, grown, and changed. You are comfortable picking up new technologies and get excited about creating a great product that delivers value to customers and the business.

Analytical - You think systematically, evaluate risk, and solve problems quickly.

A Great Communicator - You engage teams and stakeholders with thoughtful delivery and messages that resonate.

The ideal candidate has experience leading the growth of a software organization as e.g. Director of Engineering. They know how to mentor as well as manage. They know how to build systems that can be easily understood, grown, and changed. They are comfortable picking up new technologies and get excited about creating a great product that delivers value to customers and to the business. They can think systematically, evaluate risk, and solve problems quickly. They can break down problems, communicate well, and empathize with users.

Requirements

This is a full time position ideal for someone with 10+ years of experience in software engineering (at least 4 years in management).

How we work:

We keep tasks small and purpose focused with clear acceptance criteria so we can better manage and understand risks. We test-drive our code working outside-in so that it’s easy to understand and change. We pair up about 20 hours/week to facilitate learning, to write better code, and to reduce knowledge siloing. Also, it’s fun!

We are always working on improving the way that we work, and every week we reflect and consider ways we could be doing things better.

About Avvir

Avvir is out to change the way we interact with the built environment. We create and continuously update a digital replica of buildings that serve as the building's system of record. We do this by comparing the 3D design models (known as BIMs) that are created at the outset of a building's construction to laser scans of the ever changing reality. During construction this enables stakeholders to identify construction errors and monitor progress in real time. And once a building is occupied, we enable that digital twin to serve as a platform for the internet of things, integrating data from hundreds of connected sensors in a common data environment.

Company Culture

We believe your job should enrich your life, not take it over. We believe in working smart over working hard (though hard work isn’t bad.) We believe you can only be truly successful when you are fulfilled and empowered; your work should fulfill you and colleagues should empower one another. And we believe in being decent, to one another, and in general.
