b8ta is a software-powered retail showroom. We sell showroom space to the world's most innovative hardware companies. Our software allows hardware companies to enter stores in as little as two weeks, manage their retail environment from the internet, and access detailed analytics about customer behavior. b8ta is bringing the speed and power behind e-commerce to physical retail.
We're the fastest-growing company in the retail industry. Last year, we grew from 6 stores to 79.
Retail as a Service. This is the business model that will save brick-and-mortar retail. Every Fortune 500 retailer needs our help.
Our team is made from retail and technology experts, starting with our founders. They ran retail, engineering, and operations programs at Nest.
We have a flat engineering team. Our engineers work without close technical supervision but collaborate amongst each other frequently. Speed and tight feedback loops are most important to us, so we work in one-week cycles. Each cycle begins with a sprint planning meeting to discuss time estimates for new features. Throughout the development cycle, engineers work with product managers and designers to resolve unexpected ambiguities and opportunities. Along with a peer, engineers typically take part in testing their own work. We use pull requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews. Engineers push code to production between once and several times per week depending on the size and complexity of the feature set.
To be successful, we need to be experts at transferring data between the physical and digital layers of the company. - How do we collect analytics from stores using technologies like computer vision and RF sniffing? - How do we make that information actionable for consumer brands? - How do we build tools that enable free communication between consumer brands and retail staff? - How do we link a showroom experience from a brick-and-mortar location to an online sale?
Increasingly, we are helping Fortune 500 retailers transform their businesses around Retail-as-a-Service. - How do we build a backend that can integrate with legacy systems at a variety of large retailers, without compromising the user experience?
We developed an interactive retail signage application used 1.6 million times every month, configurable by consumer brands in real time over the internet.
We developed computer vision technologies to collect store traffic data from thousands of cameras across nearly 80 retail locations.
We built an e-commerce platform from the ground-up, with multi-store fulfillment and fraud detection capabilities.
We value people who leave their ego behind, enjoy collaborating with peers, eschew distractions, and like to ship fast.
Well-behaved pets are welcome. Jay's golden retriever, Luna, comes in a few times per week.
Most of our engineers work from 9-5, but that's flexible, and nobody monitors your hours. Ultimately we're accountable to our users. As long as you're shipping, you're doing great.
We believe that time off is essential to producing great work. We offer flexible time off to take however much time off you need, within reason.
We provide full medical, dental, and vision coverage. We also offer One Medical!
If you'd like to attend a workshop, we encourage you to do so — as long as it doesn't block a major feature :P
SOMA office? Check. Exposed brick walls? Check.
Free lunch once a week (after All Hands).
