Banner is transforming the way America’s buildings are developed and improved.

The Real Estate industry is largely stuck in the past technologically. Commercial real estate owners and developers are still using Excel, shared folders, and email to track and manage hundreds of billions in annual spending.

Banner builds financial and project management software that allows owners to easily track development costs, timelines, spending, and much more. Today our customers track everything from small unit renovations to large sky scraper construction projects in our system.

With a mix of workflow, integrations, and automation, Banner reduces the amount of administrative work involved in real estate development by 80%. This allows our clients to finish projects on time and on budget.

Engineering at Banner

Engineering team and processes

We currently have 3 engineers. Much of our process is still being developed. As an early engineer you’ll have significant influence in developing best practices. We typically operate on two week cycles. We do a weekly stand up and check in as necessary. As features get completed, we push to development and thoroughly test. We group our pushes to production so that it occurs once a week. We use pull requests GitHub to conduct code reviews.

Technical Challenges

Our customers typically need customizations to our base product before they roll it out. We've developed a system to toggle different customizations for different users, but we want to make sure this system is scaleable.

We are currently architecting our schema so that we can make custom tweaks to our system for specific users without affecting other users.

Projects you might work on
  • Data Validation System (past tool).

    We automatically process basic documents for our clients (invoices, change orders, price proposals from contractors). This is done through a mix of OCR and human in the loop data transcription.

    We've had to develop an entire ops tool that our data validation team uses to process the documents. Then these processed documents get sent to our clients where they can review them before it enters an approval process.

  • 3rd Party Integrations.

    Our clients want all their systems to talk to one another with Banner as the central source of truth. We have to build various integrations on top of Banner to make sure their org functions efficiently. Some of those integrations include Docusign, Snowflake, various accounting softwares (Yardi, quickbooks), and Power BI.

  • Week to Week workflow features

    You'll be working closely with our customers. You'll be able to develop and get feedback on workflow features quickly. This can be everything from a customer waning a unique data visualization on their dashboard, or an email notification system that fires when projects of a certain type are entered into the system and approved.

We heavily value independence and pride in work. We don't micro-manage, and there are no artificial barriers at Banner. If you want to be involved in larger company discussions, you will have a seat at the table. If you have a good idea, we'll try it out.

We respect boundaries and have a good work life balance. We rarely ask people to work late and on weekends.

Our company is remotely distributed. We do company socials for an hour each week where we play a different casual game together.

We're a small team (<10 people), so everyone can chat with everyone and is encouraged to get to know their co workers.
