Role Description

As an Engineering Manager, you'll be growing, managing and mentoring a team of 5-10 software engineers. Projects that your team could own: - Build a system to evaluate thousands of rules and do a combinatorial search to find out what’s the best loan and how much can you afford - Work on our Kubernetes cluster that helps us deploy 50-100 times/day with no downtime - Improve our CI pipelines that run thousands of tests across hundreds of thousands of lines of code in a few minutes (with about 85% coverage) - Experiment with tools to do OCR on documents - Build a realtor recommendation engine - If you’re interested in managing a software engineering team and solving complex problems that have a real world impact, get in touch!

Better technology - We ship code 50-100 times every day - Mostly Node.js and Python (3.6) for services - Ember.js and React on the frontend - ES6 across the stack - Postgres for the database, Redshift for our Data warehouse - Kubernetes, for deployment and devops - AWS for infrastructure, leveraging EC2, S3, CloudFront, Route53, and much more

Attributes we value - 3+ years experience managing engineers - You want to lead by example and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty – we expect this role to spend 20-50% of your time writing code, depending on the day - You take recruiting super seriously - You are happy to give engineers a lot of freedom as long as they deliver

About Better

We are building a better way to get a mortgage. Fully online, with no commissioned sales people. We fetch data from APIs instead of asking users to upload a million docs. We evaluate 1000s of rules automatically to match users with capital. Using automation we can lend money in a fraction of time and with a fraction of the cost of a traditional lender. The end result is lower rate, better experience, and a much faster process.

Company Culture

We iterate very quickly – it's not uncommon that we launch 5 or 10 major features in the same week. This is a performance culture where people join us because the want to work with other really smart engineers and learn things from each other.
