BlockFi’s mission is to provide liquidity, transparency and efficiency to digital financial markets by creating products that meet the needs of consumers and corporations across the globe. We build bridges between traditional finance and digital markets that enable growth for all participants.

Our first product is secured loans collateralized by digital assets (Bitcoin and Ether). Clients can access liquidity in the form of a loan in fiat currency (USD, Euro, Yen, KRW) by putting up their digital assets as collateral.

Leveraging a sophisticated infrastructure that integrates with multiple blockchains, we plan to expand our product set based on our retail and institutional client's needs.

Engineering at BlockFi

Engineering team and processes

You will be part of our first round of full-time hires and help shape the way BlockFi builds its MVP.

Each week will begin with a meeting to discuss our roadmap, target deadlines, and plan our work for the week ahead. Each week will end with a discussion (with beers) on how the week went, check in on milestones, and recap of what we did well and what we could be doing better.

BlockFi currently works with Lumenary, a front-end design firm, so our engineers can solely focus on building our back-end technology. We will designate one engineering team member to manage the Lumenary team and ensure that their builds are aligned with our needs.

As one of our first engineering hires, we expect you to help shape our vision for the product, be self-empowered to push code to production and driven to meet deadlines.

Technical Challenges

Build a lending platform that allows users to post Bitcoin and Ethereum as collateral. Develop skills that will allow you to work in either blockchain / crypto startups or online lenders. Primary responsibilities include:

Develop web-based and mobile applications used to ease the application process for borrowers, aid our internal team in underwriting loans, and manage the customer lifecycle from origination to servicing
Participate in architectural decisions concerning the software and how it will be moved from design process to incremental releases
Develop applications that prioritize and contribute to a culture of quality, security, and compliance
Assist the rest of the team to resolve issues and assist in automating performance, regression, and unit testing of the software

Projects you might work on

Integrate pricing data from multiple exchanges and aggregate it to form a volume-weighted average price (VWAP).
Implement triggers that send email and text alerts to our own team and our customers as the VWAP approaches certain triggers relative to each customer's loan. Eventually, these alerts should be followed by actual liquidation - automatically selling some assets on an exchange.
Build a customer portal to allow borrowers to track the progress of their application to approval, e-sign loan agreements, and then afterward to view and make payments.
Implement a permission system to ensure that employees have the correct level of access to our underwriting and reporting tools. Implement compliance systems to ensure that we don't accidentally make a loan that violates state / local laws.
