Blueberry puts a pediatric clinic in every family’s living room by combining at-home diagnostic kits, world-class pediatricians, and an intuitive app. With Blueberry, every family has immediate 24/7 access to high quality, affordable pediatric care - resulting in better health outcomes, cost savings, and dramatically fewer ER visits.

Active Roles

Why join us?

  • You will be helping children get access to better and more affordable healthcare.

We're on a mission to make concierge-level care (the kind of care typically afforded to the wealthy) available to every child. Unlike other telemedicine products, we have proven over the last 2 years that our technology can drive greater efficiency in healthcare while also lowering costs and improving on care quality - our latest data showed that Blueberry can reduce ER visits by 40% compared to Teladoc.

If you are passionate about improving our country's healthcare system for some of its most vulnerable populations, Blueberry is a great fit for you!

  • Our business is on a rocketship trajectory- we are signing up more families than ever before and are in negotations with several large healthcare institutions for major contracts. You will get to experience what it's like to be a critical member of a fast-growing team at a company that is expanding quickly.

  • We are a growing team of ex-Googlers and doctors developing technology to help physicians be more effective and efficient. You will be the 4th-5th full time engineer, in on the ground floor, with considerable impact on major technology and product decisions.

Engineering at Blueberry Pediatrics

Engineering team and processes

Blueberry is a remote, loosely agile engineering team, operating on a two-week sprint cycle with a scoping meeting at the start of the sprint and a retrospective meeting at the end. We hold brief daily standup meetings to share updates and eliminate blockers; otherwise, we aim to give engineers large contiguous blocks of uninterrupted concentration time.

Every engineer is nominally full-stack — we do not have a formal division between front-end and back-end engineers. Engineers participate in the ideation, design, and end-to-end implementation of new features in collaboration with different stakeholders, to include: product, customer service, marketing, and our in-house medical doctors.

Our current stack consists primarily of the following technologies: - Django/Python - React multi-page app (web) - React Native + Expo mobile app - Google Cloudx

Technical Challenges

Blueberry has technical facilities to support remote clinical visits and messaging, at scale, to patients simultaneously in most states throughout the US. Engineers may contribute in some or all of the parts of the business, to include work in growth and marketing, the medical platform, the parent platform, and partner integrations. The Blueberry platform consists of two main parts:

  1. A web app interface for the medical doctors, which in addition to the Django backend, manages scheduling of the medical staff, intelligent routing of patients to doctors, a chat app for instant messages between patients and doctors, an electronic medical record system, and integrations with third-party APIs to electronically prescribe medicines, call or text patients, handle billing, manage customer support issues, and ship diagnostic medical kits to customers, among other features.

  2. A web app interface and React Native (Android/iOS) mobile app for members, which allows a parent to add children, chat with doctors, submit clinical visits, take diagnostics (including pictures, video, and other media like temperature with the included medical kit), choose a pharmacy for prescriptions, and manage their account.

Blueberry is available direct to consumer, as well as through integrations with various partnerships like insurance plans and healthcare systems.

Projects you might work on
  • Create a location verification system (using native location API) to intelligently route customers to doctors based on their actual current location.

  • Improve the performance of our custom video transcoding cloud function/lambda by implementing a third-party service.

  • Propose and write experiments in the sign-up flow (pricing, design, copy, CTAs, etc.) to optimize click-through rates and conversions using tracking data from Mixpanel, GA, and our internal metrics.
