Bridgewater Associates is focused on understanding how the world works. By having the deepest possible understanding of the global economy and financial markets, and translating that understanding into great portfolios and strategic partnerships with institutional clients, we've built a distinct track record of success.

We've done this for more than 40 years by having great people operate in a culture of radical truth and radical transparency. Today, we manage about $160 billion for approximately 350 of the largest and most sophisticated global institutional clients including public and corporate pension funds, university endowments, charitable foundations, supranational agencies, sovereign wealth funds, and central banks.

Engineering at Bridgewater

Technical Challenges

As a Software Engineering Lead on the Client Service Area, you will attack a multitude of problems by designing, building, and maintaining software and applications. You will help us evolve our next-generation portfolio analytics engine. This is a unique product and one that has a huge impact. Your code and ideas will be deployed to a powerful user-base of CIO’s and institutional investment leaders. You will be building tools that allow these users to rapidly explore data, test hypotheses, understand their portfolio’s, and leverage the Bridgewater thought processes.

Some technical challenges we face:

  • How do you allow great economic minds to express economic models in a way that is easy to express, test, and understand?
  • How do you deal with ever increasing scale of data being generated?
  • How do you represent different types of economic data efficiently and in ways that users can derive maximum value from?
  • How do you provide compute capacity to continually run ever growing models both in number and scale?
