Role Description

Technology Department The Technology team at Bridgewater engineers systems to 1) fundamentally understand the world’s economies, 2) systematically execute on that understanding, and 3) excellently serve our clients’ needs through bleeding edge technology. These systems synthesize and industrialize our global understanding into a hive mind of macroeconomic knowledge which enables us to educate and collaborate with the world’s most influential central banks and policy makers and carefully and strategically manage the world’s most important capital.

Client Service Technology Bridgewater believes that the key to our organization’s success lies in creating meaningful, long-lasting relationships with our clients. The goal of the Client Service department is to provide world-class, unmatched service to our clients solving their most difficult investment problems and planning their investment strategies. Embedded within the Client Service department is a uniquely talented technology team building the tools that enable and enhance the way Client Service’s business users research markets and portfolios and interact with clients. These tools tackle problems from data pipelining, to portfolio logic, to data visualizations.

Position Responsibilities The Sr. Software Engineer (Platform) will focus the majority of their time on backend platform development sitting in between our infrastructure and front end engineering teams. The responsibilities of this team range from 1) content storing, ingesting, managing, and transforming data, to 2) the authentication and authorization for users of the data, to 3) search functions for the data in one unified, cross-cutting platform. This engineer will lead the efforts as we move towards a microservices model for rich and dynamic scalability. You will work directly with Client Service business users (analysts) to understand requirements, workflows, and how the platform performance and functionality can be improved over time.

Preferred Requirements • 5+ years professional software development experience in a technically astute environment • The ability to sort through ambiguity and integrate technologies at the architecture level • Experience with extremely complex systems and a fluency with contemporary programming languages, patterns, and architectures (experience in Scala is preferred as is the ability to stretch up the stack specifically using Node.js) • A keen ability to interact with highly sophisticated users to understand their needs, use cases, and pain points • Strong mentorship and development skills for more junior engineers on the team
