Engineering at Carvana

Engineering team and processes

Our entire Engineering team reports to a VP, and there are also Sr. Directors, Directors, Associate Directors, Managers, and Team Leads. Each Director is assigned to one vertical/cluster of the business, and then Managers and Team Leads are assigned to a coding group within those clusters. We are in a SCRUM environment, 2 week sprints.

Technical Challenges

We are building and supporting software that enables our car vending machines. We are building software that supports and maximizes our insane logistics routes. We are building custom call center software and our own CRM to manage all processes.

    Our office is right on Tempe Town Lake, with great access to downtown Tempe's shops and restaurants. We also provide Carvana Bikes for you to get there. There are also vending machines for food and free beverages.

  • Maternal/Paternal Leave

    After 6 months, employees are eligible for 3 months of maternity leave or 6 weeks of paternity leave.

  • Flexible Hours

    Most of our Engineers are in the office from around 10:00am to 3:00pm as core hours, but we are very flexible. There is also a hybrid remote/office policy where we are in the office 3 days per week and working from home the other 2 days.

  • Health Insurance

    We pay 100% of the insurance premium for the employee and approximately 75% of the premium for spouses and/or children. There is a PPO and an HDHP option, with an employer contributing HSA. We also offer full dental and vision.

  • 401(k) Contribution

    We offer a partially match for up to 6% of the employee's contribution.

  • Work from Home

    There is a hybrid remote/office policy where we are in the office 3 days per week and working from home the other 2 days.
