Our engineering team operates with a relatively flat structure and a focus on collaboration through sharing ideas and solutions. This means our engineers get exposure to our entire product while having the opportunity to work with everyone across the engineering team. We strongly believe that regardless of experience or 'seniority' everyone has something to learn from everyone else and that an ego-free approach leads to a truly satisfying work environment and ultimately a better solution for our customers where our work represents the best of us. Today, engineers can wear the hats that let them solve problems for clients most effectively. That can involve interfacing with clients, product managers, designers, and other members of the engineering team.

Our goal is empower members of our team to take ownership of engineering and product problems. With a smaller engineering team and a quickly evolving product, we value flexibility and pragmatism in our processes. We value code review, with all pull requests going under two pairs of eyes on GitHub prior to merging. While we acknowledge that it's no silver bullet, we have a keen focus on testing and our wide and deep coverage has enabled us to build our product with significant velocity. Whenever potentially business-critical issues arise, we do a full post-mortem and share the outcomes across the team to maximize learning and minimize the frequency and scale of future issues. We have regular huddles so everyone knows what everyone else is working on as well as to discuss broader team-wide issues.

Every quarter, we take a day out of the schedule to review our team structure, processes and tools to ensure that we're ready to tackle the expected and unexpected challenges that come our way in the coming months.

We're using machine learning to build a decision engine for managing patient engagement. This engine has to handle the extreme complexities of the medical billing cycle as well as the many different circumstances that patients face. A big challenge for us is building a system that is able to drive improved performance across multiple, sometimes competing, objectives: improving patient satisfaction whilst also increasing collection rates for providers.
