Role Description

Just three years in, 25% of young women in the US (18-25) have downloaded Co–Star. Our growth has been entirely through word of mouth—we’ve never spent money on ads. We have millions of active users, raised $21,000,000 from the people behind companies like Twitter, Discord, and Snap, and just launched our second paid feature.

We're looking for an iOS Engineer to build and shape key features that merge astrology and technology. You’ll help tens of millions of people connect to each other and themselves – through astrology – in real, meaningful ways.

What you’ll do: Architect and build smooth, stable, and fun features for the Co–Star iOS app using Swift Work closely with product/design to identify opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and translate product goals into high quality shippable code Spec, build, test, and deploy user experiences through an agile, collaborative process from design through implementation and launch Work closely with a small, cross-functional team to ship new features, including backend (we use Haskell), product, design, and data science Be the go-to person for guidance when it comes to product decisions so you'll have a direct impact in keeping the business productive

What you'll bring: Hands-on experience writing well-documented, easily-tested code in Swift using modern architecture paradigms A deep appreciation for our intentionally-not-like-other-startups aesthetic ;) A passion for statically verifying code A disciplined approach to development, testing, documentation, and code structure in a team environment 3+ years of experience and strong CS fundamentals

Our stack: Python wrapper intakes NASA data about where the planets are to find the patterns in the night sky from the perspective of earth Haskell backend transforms data, gives writers superpowers, and delivers resonant, personalized content BigQuery stores TB of data to create insight for internal teams Native Swift & Android apps create an incredible mobile experience that feels made-for-your-fingers AWS infrastructure scales to serve millions of people What an NLP professor called a “virtuoustic” use of Google Sheets We’ve been taking a full-stack approach to the way we work so far, but want people to own and lead the domains they feel passionate about – whatever they may be

How we work: We've been working remotely since the pandemic, so we welcome remote candidates for this role. In no way does remote mean isolated. We’re big into cross-functional collaboration. We ideate collectively, ship qualitatively-validated MVPs, and iterate based on internal & customer feedback. We validate what we think people need with iterative user testing, A/B test everything, and use data to inform our decisions. Weekly, the whole team talks through why tests worked or failed and plans our sprints. Quarterly, the entire company comes together to think of what we want to build. Every single member of the team has deep knowledge of and experience in something relevant to building Co–Star, be it astrology, community, or world-building.

What we offer: Fully covered $0 deductible healthcare (including vision + dental) Unlimited vacation Flexible hours Competitive cash + equity comp 401(k) Unlimited equipment budget

About Co-Star

Three years after launching, someone, somewhere downloads Co-Star every 3 seconds. Every day, we generate millions of hyper-personalized horoscopes using rules-based natural language programming that combines state-of-the-art AI models like GPT-3 with the insights of staff poets. Understanding that astrology is about more than predicting the future, we approach it as part of $4.3tr wellness industry.

Company Culture

We value intelligent, thoughtful, problem solving. We respect each other's opinions, experiences, and backgrounds and talk out challenges until we arrive at a solution. We're constantly collaborating, communicating, and moving forward.
