We started with invoice financing in 2017 and this has exploded in a multi-million billion opportunity to solve the payments mess for trucking and logistics companies. We help trucking companies grow their fleets and expand their businesses by advancing them money against invoices through fully digitized invoice factoring and automated payments. You’ll be joining a small engineering team focused on developing impactful solutions the enable hundreds of thousands of companies to thrive (most of them small businesses). Our technology is already responsible for processing millions of dollars of transactions every month.

Engineering at ComFreight

Engineering team and processes

We have 4 engineers: 2 backend (Python) and 2 frontend (React). Additionally, we have a designer on our team who helps us think about the workflow for features visually so we can iterate those flows with the business team to ensure we've thought through the business logic.

Generally, once we accept to begin development on a task, we'll work on 2 week-long focused-projects where only critical bugs can interfere so we can get our projects completed. Any new tasks or project feature updates are pushed to next week's focus or triaged into a future sprint.

Technical Challenges

We're building two systems: one that processes financial transactions using different payment systems so we need to manage the flow of money on a digital ledger. The payments solution is being developed into a plugin and API that any logistics company can integrate with (think Stripe for logistics). Additionally, we're building out a ML team as we gain more data about the market to produce our own risk model algorithms as well as other learning systems for automating user input.

Projects you might work on
  • Support a publicly available plugin and supporting API so that logistics companies can integrate our payment financing and freight process automation capabilities right into their existing apps.

  • Build out our new web-app from scratch that will allow payors to submit and manage their payments to logistics companies online (right now they send thousands of physical checks by mail per month).

  • Expand our web app and API product aimed at freight brokers which will be the highest-growth market as we scale our financial product.

On the tech side, we like people who communicate clearly, communicate early, and communicate often. We're very big on communication and like written communication for outlining large ideas and most day to day communication occurs over Slack.

We also have in-person meetings 1 – 2x/week to dive deep on complex architectural issues and get through questions that are team-wide issues. Breakouts are encouraged and we love seeing two engineers at a screen working through a hard problem together when collaboration is needed.

Lastly, we want people who stress the details because that’s what enable us to be truly extraordinary as a company. From UI/UX to backend financial management which requires project-wide logical consistencies, attention to detail ensures that we avoid hemorrhaging money especially as we process hundreds of millions of dollars through our growing pipeline of clients.

    We expect everyone to work at least 3 days/week at the office so you can take 2 days to work at home. Additionally, we don't have hard requirements for engineers to be in the office at a certain time though we do want everyone to be available or starting their workday by 10AM and to be available to solve morning issues or for quick breakout meetings or calls related to goals for the day/week.
