Over 1 Billion people worldwide have hearing loss, including our founder Amy Li (Stanford MBA, UC Berkeley Engineering) who went through 7 pairs of hearing aids over the last 26 years. We have developed patented technology that can enable one billion people worldwide with hearing loss to hear clearly. An alarming 80% of people with hearing loss don't gain access to solutions that would help them. We are solving the frictions of pricing, accessibility, reduced stigma and customized audio quality.

Why join us?

  • You will be on the front lines of the digital health revolution, working on one of the most significant yet underserved challenges today, hearing loss. Over 1 Billion people worldwide have hearing loss, including Concha Labs' founder and a significant portion of our team. An alarming 80% of people with hearing loss don't gain access to solutions that would help them. We have developed patented technology that can enable one billion people worldwide to hear clearly. We are solving the frictions of pricing, accessibility, reduced stigma and personalized audio quality. We've performed initial user testing with promising results, and are starting to roll out to Beta users. We're backed by SkyDeck, StartX, National Science Foundation, and Cantos VC, have multiple patents granted, and are supported by top audiologists in the nation.

This is a huge opportunity to build impactful solutions for all these people to hear clearly, changing the landscape of hearing and audio software technology to empower people to hear clearly from the comfort of their own homes.

  • As a startup, we all wear multiple hats, which means you will have the responsibility to develop key features that your job primarily covers plus solve a variety of new and unanticipated challenges that can span a range of functions. You will be joining the team at an exciting time - our MVP product is coming together and we are gearing up for launch. You will solve an array of problems that are critical to the business, learn efficiently, and see your work make a huge impact on the user.

  • We have a culture of empowerment. At the core, we are a software team tackling meaningful challenges that people with hearing loss face, to empower people to learn about their hearing and hear clearly from the comfort of their homes. Internally, we care about culture and having fun working together, and you will join and contribute to a company culture where mutual respect, collaboration, curiosity, and pushing boundaries are core to the company’s values. Ideally, you will bring an energetic, fun, and “always learning” mindset.

Engineering at Concha Labs

Engineering team and processes

We follow Agile methodologies so that we can be nimble and iterative as we solve interesting challenges. We find that this type of Agile planning and collaboration helps us move faster and with fewer headaches. We continuously plan, execute, and evaluate our long-term vision, mid-term roadmap, user features, epics, and stories. Clear, transparent, frequent communications enables us to respond to change quickly.

Technical Challenges

On each platform, there are various ways to embrace audio software and technologies. Becoming masters at what different platforms can enable (e.g. website can record live voice and how can we modulate that) is a fascinating multifaceted challenge we deal with.

Projects you might work on
  • You would be consolidating and integrating user usage data from website, hearing pods, smartphone, and other sources to learn and improve the user's audio experience through ML.

  • You would be building wireless connectivity functions to empower the user to control and program their hearing pods from their own smartphone.

  • You would be building iOS apps, Android apps, website, and/or other components from scratch.

Diversity and Inclusion

Currently our company is 67% women, span a couple different ethnicities, and a few different nationalities. Women make up just 5% to 7% of audio engineers. For an audio software technology company, we are incredibly diverse. We will continue to focus on encouraging diversity to welcome a wide range of approaches and viewpoints.

We engage in frequent, transparent, team-based communications. We operate on an Agile approach and everyone feels heard during our stand ups, every day. We are genuinely curious about each other.

We are a small startup so we don't have corporate opportunities that larger companies would have. We genuinely check in with each other on how we're doing.

Perks & benefits
  • Flexible Hours

We operate on the Americas time zone (9am-3pm Pacific) and expect team members to be responsive and reasonably available for potential meetings during this time if needed. As long as you are responsive, productive, and show up to meetings that you agree you'll show up to, you can work from wherever you want.

  • Women-led company

Founder & CEO is female. Our company is roughly half female-male gender ratio.

  • Minority-led company

    Founder & CEO is Asian-American.

  • Work from Home

We operate remotely. We find that people who have strong support networks at home do better than those who feel alone.

  • LGBTQ+ friendly

We welcome a variety of backgrounds

  • Serves underrepresented populations

We are serving the underrepresented population of people who have hearing loss. Even though 1 billion people worldwide have hearing loss, over 80% of us don't address it. We may try to hide it for many years because we don't feel heard or represented. Or, we can't afford the otherwise expensive solutions. Our company is working to change this.
