Engineering at Convex
Convex is building the leading B2B platform for the under-the-radar, but massive and ubiquitous commercial services industry. Our flagship product, Atlas, provides rich data on every commercial property in the US (~63M) and workflow software on top. We’re scaling the team to meet the demands of our growing customer base, ranging from small-medium-sized businesses to larger enterprises, such as Siemens and Carrier.
Our Engineers help deliver our next-generation features along with improved performance and scalability. Our technical complexities are unique to our business domain, which intersects Big Data, modern web and mobile technologies, machine learning, geospatial data, and integration with various cutting-edge enterprise services and legacy data. The team is proud to work closely with Design and Product to transform these complexities into simple user experiences for our happy customers.
We use Slack for communication, Jira for task management, and AWS services for hosting, deployment, etc. We do a video call with the remote team twice a week. The agenda for the call, depending on the day is 1) sync up on outstanding questions, discuss issues in progress, etc. 2) demo new features 3) preview design mocks for the upcoming sprint.
Our team is small, so our processes are light. Developers commit to the development and staging environments regularly. New features are QA’d in our staging environment and depending on urgency, deployments are made to production a couple times a week.
We pride ourselves on being a lean, high performing, over achieving team. We move very fast without breaking (important) things.
We are creating comprehensive data set on every non-residential building in the country, around 60M properties. This requires us to build several things simultaneously: a data pipeline, a tool to build training sets for machine learning models, and finally, efficient access to this data for our customers.
Our flagship product, Atlas, allows users to view information on every non-residential building in their area. Importantly, Atlas facilitates their workflow. We are constantly improving on and expanding the feature set of Atlas to better serve and expand our customer base.
Part of the “secret sauce” is our internal tool, Cartographer. Cartographer allows an off-shore team to “label” buildings which serves as a training set for our machine learning models.
Our next product, only known as “Proposal Generation” right now, will be a complex application that allows our users to more efficiently and consistently generate custom proposals for their customers.

Work with Candor: We operate transparently and collaboratively by default. If we aren’t open with each other, we’ll just be nice. This allows our commitments to be trusted.
