Copia Wealth Studios
Copia helps those with complex portfolios simplify their wealth. We're building a financial intelligence platform that streamlines the management of alternative heavy portfolios.
Why join us?
The team comprises veterans who have been shipping products for decades; we've been designing and developing native iOS apps since the dawn of the iOS SDK. The team has built hundreds of mobile apps across the enterprise and consumer space. We pride ourselves on building idiomatic native experiences. We know design matters, and we know investing in pixel-perfection is worthwhile.
Our first Product is a wealth management platform designed to help high net worth individuals (think entrepreneurs and athletes) manage their alternative investments. Our 'Patrons' track everything from art to crypto to real estate and business assets. We've already secured a number of high-profile channel partners and we've managed to unlock early product-market fit. We're fully funded, and we have plenty of runway to match our ambitions
We've helped launch eight Global #1 Applications, spawned Deloitte Fast 500 Companies, won National Entrepreneurs of the Year, and built companies with Billions of Assets under Management. This is not our first rodeo :)
Engineering at Copia Wealth Studios
Our engineering team operates in 2-week sprints. Everyone on the team contributes regularly, and pull requests are a core part of life. Everyone has a direct impact on the product and is actively involved in key product decisions. From a process perspective, we're using Clubhouse to manage the backlog, we have regular sprint planning sessions, and are improving our long-term roadmap thinking.
We believe in continuous integration and are all about functional programming. The team is very senior and very open to fostering a supportive growth-minded work environment. We're using SwiftUI which is still bleeding edge for a lot of folks; we know ramp-up time is a thing.
The nature of our product means we have to consider a ton of integrations. We have to connect to banks, investment platforms, institutional systems, etc. Of course, much of this is handled by the back end but it does create some unique UI/UX challenges as each user can have a unique perspective about how information is presented.
We're also trying to create some very novel finance 'widgets' that will help non-financial users understand complex portfolios. For example, an Efficient Frontier
that uses monte carlo simluations to run various portfolio scenarios. Another example would be our fruit tree
, a digital tree that bears more fruit as your investments mature.
On top of this, we have a whole document ingestion engine that requires a number of new user interaction paradigms to be created.
Our first product is simply called
Copia
. It's a wealth management / financial intelligence platform aimed at people who have complex investment portfolios. This is our first project but we don't intend for it to be our last. As a developer on the team, you'll work directly with product owners, designers, and of course other front/back end developers to ship our anchor product. You'll be tasked with building dashboard widgets, financial graphs and graphics, family management tools, notification engines, and anything else that serves the needs of the Patron. Our desire is that this app funds our future projects, which will be things like robo advisors for alternative investments, wealth management apps for the average person, and hedge fund management tools, etc.
Working at Copia Wealth Studios
We're a band of innovators, designers, and technologists. We believe culture is the one thing you can't over-invest in. We accept humans are poor substitutes for robots - we also understand humans are not resources. We're committed to building a team where employees can do their best work.
We have four core values today: Be Humble, Be Humane, Be Holistic and Be Hungry.
The senior members of the team have been working together for upwards of 10 years. We started this company to be the last company we have to work at
and we intend to build the kind of culture where teammates are invited over for family BBQs, take hikes together, and are the kind of people you call to help dig up hidden treasure in the night.
Today we're a young company, but we all recognize the importance of building a diverse team. We're trying to create an environment of psychological safety where all teammates can be valued, respected, and heard. Our belief is that diversity and inclusion enable us to broaden our perspectives and build a more equitable future.
We're a totally distributed workforce with lots of experience working in remote teams. That said, we also know the importance of face-to-face, which is why we host an annual Defrag
onsite and allow employees to travel to the closest hub
to mingle as they see fit in between Defrags.
We have a number of simple processes that help with making new hires feel included. Things like the daily standup, weekly happy hours, OKR & weekly reflections, 1-3-6 month check-ins, an active Slack instance, and regular game nights (everything from virtual poker to Among Us).
We don't have specific programs in place, but we encourage applicants from all creeds, backgrounds, and walks of life to apply. As part of our corporate development, and as our HR (talent) systems mature we anticipate a more meaningful conversation here.
-
Company Retreats
Once a year we do a
Defrag
where we get everyone together in one place. We also encourage anyone who wants, to visit any of the corehubs
to get to know the broader team better.
-
Workshops/Conferences
Conferences are on a case-by-case basis, but philosophically we’ll do whatever we can to fuel your passion. Historically this means sending people to WWDC, participating in industry events, and joining a variety of workshops. If there's something that you're passionate about, that also benefits the team, chances are we're going to approve it.
-
Flexible Hours
Most of the team is active during the day, but we don't have set hours. If you need to drop the kids off at school, or grab groceries mid-day and would rather clock a couple of hours a night, that's cool by us. We recognize work-life balance and understand managing the modern family unit can be messy. We primarily operate in PT/MT time zones, so we just ask that some overlap occurs so the team can jam together.
-
Philanthropic Contributions
We're committed to giving back, we use a triple bottom line philosophy, allocating a percentage of equity, profit, and time to causes we love. As a member of the team, you'll have the opportunity to influence these investments.
-
Work from Home
You can work wherever you want. In a post COVID world, we plan to establish some office space where teams can come and go as they please, collaborating face to face as needed. We know environment matters, which is why every new hire gets a $1,000 office upgrade budget in addition to meeting their technology needs.
-
Gym/Fitness
Each employee is entitled to a $400/year stipend for gym/club/fitness-related membership. In addition, we will reimburse you for an annual subscription to whatever meditation/mindfulness/wellness app you prefer.
-
Other
