Cricket Health is a comprehensive kidney care provider with a personalized, evidence-based approach to managing chronic kidney disease. We believe in patient intervention before kidney failure when there is still opportunity to improve quality of life, health outcomes, and control costs.

Why join us?

  • Mission. The status quo in dialysis and kidney disease is profoundly broken, but if we just put what the patient wants first, not only will they have better lives, but we'll also get better care at lower costs.

  • Well-funded. $24M Series A, led by Oak HC/FT. Seed led by First Round Capital. https://www.crickethealth.com/series-a/

  • Team. We have a world-class, multi-disciplinary group. LinkedIn, Iora, Kiva, UCSF, DaVita/FMC. To really transform how healthcare is delivered, you need to be able to disrupt on all these fronts, not just one.

  • Published results from pilot to show our program works. * 43% patients started home dialysis (4.3x status quo) * 93% started dialysis outside the hospital (2.6x status quo)

Engineering at Cricket Health

Engineering team and processes

The current engineering team is 9 people, so the processes are lightweight, but we've got the scaffolding in place to ramp that up.

We plan 2-week sprints with the Product Manager, including both new features and platform/infra improvements. This includes reviewing requirements, UI mocks and design assets. Engineers work on one task at a time, writing both code and tests. At any point, a branch can be deployed to a public environment where non-technical people (PM, other teams, users) can see and touch the changes. When complete, the other engineer does a code review and once both are happy, the PR is merged. An automated CI/CD pipeline users it through to production.

Technical Challenges

People with kidney disease tend to be older and sicker than the general population, so our UX needs to accommodate that. Our web apps will be sufficient for most, but we're also looking at voice and chat based interfaces.

There is also a large population of people with kidney disease who go undiagnosed until they end up in the ER and on dialysis. With access to large data sets from payers or health systems. we need to be able to build models that will identify those high-risk patients so we can enroll them in our program.

Projects you might work on
  • Real-time chat interface that allows a nurse to communicate with multiple patients concurrently.

  • Integration of large claims and clinical data sets from payers / health systems, not just to identify high-risk patients, but also to support sales efforts with prospective customers.

  • Dashboards and notifications that show nurses / other clinicians which patients they should pay attention to first, prioritized by urgency/risk, based on multiple sources of input.
