Engineering at CrowdTwist, Inc.
We have a highly distributed system made up of many microservices. Our engineering team is internally divided into 5 smaller groups. Each group is responsible for a specific aspect of our platform. We follow Scrum Agile methodology with 2 week sprints. Each cycle begins with grooming, to discuss tickets created by the Product team and give time estimates. It is followed by Sprint planning and at the end of the sprint we have a demo meeting where each engineer can show off the work they’ve completed.
We use GitHub as our source control system and conduct code reviews via Pull Requests. Quality is of extreme importance to us, so we are very particular about writing unit tests, integration tests and automated functional tests using TestNG and Selenuim, which are used in our continuous integration process.
We have a robust CI/CD pipeline that allows us to do frequent and regular releases.
You’ll be working with a large, highly-trafficked, highly distributed and scalable application. For every new feature we build, we have to keep this scale in mind to ensure the platform scales horizontally; components need to be made more robust (eg. greater error checking, automatic fail-over, recovery, etc), consider challenges around eventual consistency of data and the likes.
We are working on next generation of products with the help of Data Scientists in our team to gain insights into the user behavior to allow our clients better target their customers.
We are expanding internationally and are working on setting up another AWS instance of our platform outside of US. This brings up unique challenges like data integrity and replication across region, security, etc.
