Crux is a global network where data is delightful. We help businesses realize the potential of data now—without all the busy work. Our data engineers deliver action-ready data to businesses via our cloud platform. So data works in harmony with businesses every day.
We’re a new kind of business. We don’t buy or sell data. We just help it flow in a way that enriches our partners. We’re transforming the information supply chain to help businesses connect with the data they need, when and how they need it. We can help data vendors connect with new clients, help portfolio managers and quants discover new datasets that can inform stronger business decisions, and help Heads of IT distribute data more efficiently. By designing, building, and operating data pipelines, we create a network that empowers businesses to achieve meaningful movement forward.
Our founding team brings together decades of leadership in financial services and analytics, deep experience in data engineering, and a shared commitment to our clients’ success. We understand the challenges that companies face in working with data, and we support our clients through transformation.
Our Founder and CEO, Philip Brittan has over 30 years of experience creating data strategies for leading financial companies. Philip has served as head of Google Finance, CTO and head of platform for Thomson Reuters’ Financial and Risk Division, and head of Bloomberg’s Global FX business. Philip has managed global teams of 6000+ members with multi-billion-dollar budgets and revenues. As an entrepreneur, he has founded and managed several software startups. He is an angel investor and advisor for technology startups as well.
We are first and only ecosystem for data engineering in the industry. Our largest competition is the data processing infrastructure and data engineering teams which have proven costly and time-consuming for firms to build and maintain in-house. Crux solves this problem for our clients. And we are just getting started. One of our engineers said it best:
Working at Crux now is like saying you helped build Google search. The potential is amazing.
Series A $21M led by Goldman Sachs and Citi Series B strategic partnership with Two Sigma, one of the world's largest quantitative investment managers. https://www.thetradenews.com/two-sigma-invests-data-science-startup/
Our engineering team is very talented — deeply seasoned engineers who care about building it right the first time. And, they are amazing humans! Who you work with is as important as the work you are doing.
Our engineering team operates on two-week sprints following agile principles. Each cycle begins with a meeting to discuss time estimates for features, and ends with a demo meeting where each engineer can show off the work they've completed to the company. Engineers typically work with a product manager and any other interested parties to spec features, then work on the feature individually. We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews. Engineers can quickly see their impact on our product as we push code to production multiple times a week.
UI Team: - Building a performant UI to handle large datasets > GBs - Making the data exploration and visualization experience delightful - Building a secure UI to handle permission management and access to data - Building a library of re-usable components using React
Python SDK team - Architect, design and develop our Java + Python data management platform - Design and develop tools to enable the massive scaling of data pipelines
Platform Engineering - Make a significant and tangible contribution to our backend - Work on all parts of the stack and help set architectural direction - Solve many substantial challenges, from crafting scalable code to managing data at scale
- you will be working on our user facing platform, a global network that incorporates data management, exploration and visualization.
- you will be building the UI to support our data operations team, offering live insights on our data pipelines.
These 2 greenfield projects will offer the opportunity to have a major impact on architectural and design decisions while working with cutting edge technologies.
A Culture of Discovery
Crux welcomes bright ideas and cultivates leadership. As we work together to design and implement new-to-the-world services for our clients, we take initiative, exchange feedback, and participate in a dynamic creative process with meaningful results for the future.
We work in a field that’s growing by millions of gigabytes every minute. So we value learning and the eagerness to learn, we help one another grow, and we ask everyone to check their ego at the door. We are diverse individuals—and collaborators. Our best ideas are the products of our unique strengths.
These 5 big ideas help guide our team as we build delightful experiences for our clients:
Truth - be open, be curious, listen, watch out for blind spots, dig down to the root causes, look at the big picture, look for related problems and ideas, think clearly, be persistent
Excellence - care, build partnerships, delight our clients, pay attention, be committed, be creative, invest in yourself and in your people, enjoy your work
Agility - break big tasks into small batches, be anti-fragile, try controlled experiments, embrace constraints and challenges as catalysts to create something extraordinary, leverage what you have
Confidence - know yourself, be prepared, practice, replace fear with respect for risk, be proud, but stay humble, when in doubt, do something.
Collaboration - Work together in a spirit of open partnership to be more than the sum of the individuals, be respectful, be reliable, and have fun!
