Engineering at EveryDay Labs
Hey there! We’re still a small team (4 software engineers and 4 data engineers) and we’ve got big projects on our roadmap with a steadily growing client base. Rather than push projects further into the future, we’re hoping to bring in someone to help take a share of our roadmap and help us “keep the lights on” for our current products.
We have daily standups, use two week sprints, have regular retrospectives, and review all code through github PRs. We are otherwise light on process and tend towards pragmatic one-off meetings to sync-up or work on pair program often on hard problems and code reviews.

Building an SMS pipeline from scratch using a serverless platform
Converting a manual process of districts uploading CSVs to SFTP into an automated pipeline of retrieval, normalization, and import of data into a service to support needs of downstream products that would otherwise need to work with raw CSV
Designing a database schema for daily imports of student and attendance data that supports high volume with lots of duplication. Using normalization to keep storage size minimal but also tuning the schema so denormalizing queries remain performant even when they are rehydrating large amounts of historical data for aggregate metrics and reporting
The SMS pipeline mentioned above. It sends to millions of households each month!
A web portal for school administrators that pulls from all our backend data sources to provide aggregate insights and trends to help schools develop new interventions and keep track of new patterns in attendance that may emerge due to continued COVID circumstances.
Building a service to store all the valuable data computed during our data-analysis process, which currently outputs the communication messages we send via text and mail. Along with the output messages, there are many valuable intermediate pieces of data that we derive during data-analysis. Storing all this data in a service will allow us to build more robust district reports and help us improve our own products
