Production Engineering is a hybrid systems and software engineering team working to make sure that Facebook's infrastructure and products are scalable, reliable, and efficient. We work closely with software engineers to help them make the best use of Facebook's infrastructure and to identify gaps in that infrastructure, and with infrastructure engineers to make sure they're building infrastructure that meets the needs of current and planned products.
A Production Engineer at Facebook can be thought of as the SRE, SRO, or DevOps in other corporations, but that would be an understatement. Rather, we sit with our software teams, ask about risks we see, suggest changes, actually implement changes, as well as facilitate interactions cross-group -- and they teach us as much as we share with them.
Facebook is the most popular social networking product in the world, with over 2 billion monthly active users. Our mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them.
So far, we've connected more than 2 billion people — which means we still have more than 5 billion to go. The scale and complexity of our work are unprecedented, and the work we do makes a real difference in the lives of people around the world. Over time, we’ve expanded the Facebook family to include Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Augmented & Virtual Reality, and Facebook Connectivity — but when it comes to bringing the world closer together, we’re just getting started.
Facebook is defined by our unique culture – one that rewards impact. We encourage our people to be bold and solve the problems they care most about. Facebook employees work in small teams that move fast and iterate to develop new products. Together, we help others build stronger communities — and we're just getting started.
