We believe that great design and user experience are a requirement, not an afterthought.
Our CTO and some of our engineers have deep design experience, having worked at creative agencies and led design teams at other startups. This means we bring a user-centered approach to problem solving, focusing deeply on our customers. We offer regular customer shadowing sessions (open to our whole team) and conduct and share user research regularly.
We're competing with legacy software that was built in the 1990's. These legacy products have extremely low user satisfaction, but are worth billions of dollars just because they are entrenched with so many firms. We believe that our user-centered approach will play a key role in winning this space.
We're obsessed with data and have access to a rich dataset that is ripe for automation and AI.
Typical audit engagements involve hundreds of documents and thousands of disparate data points. We're currently working to make sense of all that data by building a document processing engine that enables us to structure and deeply understand its contents.
It's still early, but we're already seeing that firms on Fieldguide are more efficient than anywhere else. With our data advantage, we can provide our users with intelligent automation, predictions of common workflow patterns, and aggregated analytics that does not exist on the market. This will fundamentally change the cost and time structure of audits.
Our team has experience building similar systems in other complex, B2B verticals like HR and legal tech. Now, we're applying those learnings to this space.
We're very pragmatic. We have lofty goals for complex document processing and AI/ML systems, but know that we have to approach these problems iteratively. We're excited to meet data-obsessed engineers who have a similar, practical approach.
Engineering at Fieldguide
Our engineering team currently consists of three highly experienced engineers and our CTO.
We utilize a bi-weekly sprint cadence where we set a team-wide goal, but ship continuously throughout the sprint thanks to our CI/CD and feature flag capabilities. Typical days see 5-10 production releases.
Everyone on the team moves fast and has great autonomy over large areas of the product and tech stack.
We have dozens of different types of workflows happening on our platform, so flexibility and configurability is at the core of many of our features. Our customers can use our templates or build their own frameworks, which reflect how they perform audit work. This level of customization requires us to make smart data modeling decisions and mandates an extremely high UX bar. In other words, our features need to be extremely powerful and extremely usable!
We also deal with large volumes of document-based data. Understanding the contents and meaning of this data creates the ability to automate more parts of workflows that our users have traditionally done manually.
Two way document sync with Microsoft Word and Excel that works like magic. Customers have no integrations to configure and no need to download or upload anything.
A flexible framework builder that allows custom fields to be created, formulas to be run, and various data objects throughout the system to be seamlessly linked together
A document processing pipeline that handles the extraction and classification of text, indexing for search, and storage that makes it easy to retrive and link together related data.
