The team comes from a manufacturing background. Most notably, the team has built the factory automation systems at SpaceX.
We are building software that effects real-world manufacturing. Things like drones, airplanes, rockets, and spacecraft. We are building software to enable companies to push forward humanity's relationship with the physical world.
We work on two-week sprints. We are highly customer-driven, so all of our customer calls go into our feature-value matrix. With enough weight, a feature becomes a product. Working with product and designers, engineers define the engineering task before planning and implementing in a sprint. We have CI for both our frontend and backend, and we push code to production weekly, at a minimum.
Our software bridges the online and offline worlds, so we design for usage across multiple devices and environments (e.g. factory floor). The backend has to support strong consistency for the kinds of transactions to power a factory (e.g. work instructions, inventory, part traceability). Overall, we have to ruggedize the system for low-connectivity environments and ensuring safety for physical-world systems, like test rigs, thermal ovens, and valuable hardware assemblies.
Transition our backend to GraphQL to allow complex queries from our frontend desktop and mobile applications.
Build out a data pipeline process that moves data captured from the factory floor into an analytics database and visualization interface for production engineers and industrial engineers to optimize the factory process.
Architect and implement our Factory Gateway to allow manufacturing, test, and automation engineers to
bring their machines online. This SDK will bridge engineers that are building rockets, jet engines, etc. to use the power of data and connectivity to accelerate manufacturing speed and quality.
We are all owners — including individual projects, features, and the customer experience. Because we are all engineers, and so are our users, we value tight feedback loops and building for technical people. Given that we are young, we are scrappy and constantly have to make good judgements about speed to implementing and ensuring we don't bring down a manufacturing line.
We are in the middle of downtown Los Angeles in a skyscraper. We have a beautiful view of downtown and all the way out to the ocean. On a clear day, you can see the coast! The office has free coffee, games, and other amenities.
