We're a platform for physicians to find side gigs outside of clinical medicine (Upwork for MDs).

I created this because it was my problem last year. I am a PGY-3 interventional radiology resident and needed to make some extra income last year because my daughter was starting school and we had bought a house. I ended up making $35k in 6-months working 5-10 hours a week. It was then that I realized that there was a market for physician expertise that had gone yet untapped. We are selling into many different verticals including startups, medical device, pharma, medical education, VC firms, PR/marketing, etc.

Why join us?

  • We had the idea for flipMD in June. Launched in July and have grown from 0 to 1300+MDs on the platform. Our platform jobs have increased from $115 to > $450k.

  • We have big goals for the company outside of a side gig marketplace, which include creating software for large pharma/medical device companies to source real-time, actionable, data that cannot be sourced currently. This would allow us to create enterprise accounts for large companies (Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, etc.).

  • We are raising a $1 million SAFE and interviewing for Y Combinator winter cohort on Monday.

We currently have an offshore dev team that created our MVP to prove the concept. We are now looking to hire a senior engineer and possibly a technical co-founder to join our company.

Technical Challenges

It is very hard to iterate and improve the platform given our current situation with our developers. We need to be much more agile and proactive as we continue to grow quickly.

Projects you might work on
  • Iterate and improve our current platform (UI, UX, new features and integrations), which is profitable. This will probably be pretty easy for a good developer to do quickly.

  • Create a start-of-the-art matching platform (AI/ML) for pharma/device to perform super-fast research (competitor analysis, current practice trends, etc.) with our physicians within the platform. This would include the ability to source who is currently available to perform an interview and then integration with an AI software. This would be a pretty involved, detailed project with lots of different requirements.

We are a lean startup (run by husband and wife) that is looking to change medicine and how physicians work outside of medicine. We have created something that actually solves a market problem for both clients and physicians. We have seen very quick growth without actually spending money on marketing. As we get into some new capital, our speed is likely going to increase and we really want someone that can grow with us.
