Getaround is an on-demand car sharing marketplace powered by our proprietary hardware technology, the Getaround Connect. Headquartered in San Francisco since 2009, we won TechCrunch Disrupt in 2011, and launched on-demand car sharing just two years later.
Getaround has grown to over 200,000 members across the US by allowing users to rent, unlock and drive — all with your phone. Rates start at $5/hour including insurance and no membership fees. Car owners conveniently share their cars earning $500-$1000 a month.
Engineering at Getaround
We build our own hardware and use this to capture a lot of data that we use to optimize our processes. We have billions of data points about our cars and their exact locations and status being processed each month.
We build software for both our users and also to optimize our business processes. This requires gathering lots of business intelligence data and applying machine learning techniques to assess the risk of each new user who rents a car.
