Goldfinch is a decentralized credit platform for crypto loans without collateral. This is the missing piece that finally unlocks crypto lending for most people in the world. We believe there’s vast untapped lending potential in the world. It’s expensive to be a bank today, and this limits the kinds of lenders that can operate. But there are thousands if not millions who could lend with the right system. We’re building a platform that empowers anyone to be a lender, not just banks.

Why join us?

  • We're already live, on Ethereum, with a real-world use case for the blockchain. We've deployed over $70M+ on-chain to real companies in Mexico, Nigeria, and Southeast Asia, which is impacting over 300k end borrowers. We have 100s of millions in our pipeline, and we're just getting started.

  • Awesome team and investors. We're founded by two ex-Coinbase employees, and just closed a $25M series A, led by a top tier investor a16z, plus existing investors including Coinbase Ventures, IDEO CoLab Ventures, Variant Fund, Slow Ventures, Balaji Srinivasan, and others. Our early hires come from top tier tech companies, including Coinbase, Airbnb, Goldman Sachs, Yelp, and Branch. And all but one team member has previously started their own company.

  • We're creating real impact in the world. We're increasing financial inclusion by getting capital into the hands of companies around the globe that traditionally struggle to access credit.

  • We're playing a huge game. We're part of the DeFi movement, building an entirely new financial system from the ground up that's global, accessible and fair. Come join us!

Engineering at Goldfinch Technology Company

Engineering team and processes

Our eng team is small and collaborative. There is just one eng team. We all work on every layer, which means writing Solidity (the Ethereum smart contract language), and React on our frontends. No servers! The blockchain is our backend! We each own our individual tasks, but also tend to do about one pairing session per week.

We do weekly sprints, with weekly retros, following a roughly agile methodology. We use Slack and Notion for collaboration and work tracking.

Technical Challenges

Developing smart contracts and decentralized protocols requires a different mindset, tooling, and deployment patterns than traditional web software (somewhat similar to how mobile development is materially different from browser or backend development). Changing things after launch is much harder to do, making it (in some ways) closer to hardware than software. For example, Ethereum is a much more adversarial environment than your own servers, which means you have very different security considerations. All your code is public, and all the apps are interoperable by default. Someone can take out a flash loan on one protocol and manipulate prices on yours, or miners can front-run your users transactions. Hackers can deploy fake versions of your contracts and trick your protocol if you aren't careful. And it all must be done economically. Recent gas costs have made reading a single variable from storage cost $1! So you must be ruthless with every line of code in order to keep costs down for your users. It's the wild west out there, and the path is not well worn.

Projects you might work on
  • You could get to own greenfield like building on-chain governance, an insurance backstop, our auditor system, and more.

  • You could build our investor dashboard on our front-ends, from scratch. This would be in React, and will involve fetching data from Ethereum, using The Graph protocol.

  • You could help us migrate to a blockchain scaling solution such as an Ethereum L2 (eg. zkSync, Optimism), or to an alternative blockchain like Solana.

Working at Goldfinch Technology Company

You'll see strong strains of collaboration, ownership, and iteration in our culture. For example, we recently got legal feedback raising potential issues with our protocol, and we called in the whole team to help think through the best solution. Another example is that one engineer owns each task, but we will regularly pair during development. And we're always iterating and taking feedback. We have weekly retros. We do regular interviews with members of our Discord community, and we incorporate customer feedback in our product designs.

Also, we believe you win by working strategically rather than with brute force hours. Even though it's a fast paced startup, we almost never work nights and weekends. It's all about prioritization.

Diversity and Inclusion

We're creating a global platform that serves all types of people around the world. The only way we can do that is by forming a team from all perspectives and walks of life. Diversity is a priority for us, and we're focused on running a fair and inclusive hiring process.

One way we've fostered diversity in the early stages is through the 50+ investors and advisors we've brought onboard to help guide us. Their backgrounds span every continent, and our largest investors who join our Board meetings are all women or POC.

In terms of culture, we want everyone to feel comfortable being their full selves. We create spaces for people to regularly share how they are doing and reflect with the rest of the team. Also, when we design our product or strategy, we include the whole team and ensure everyone has a voice, especially those who don't speak up at first. One of our internal values is building lifelong relationships, a phrase we often repeat, and that helps drive our decisions and how we interact with each other.
