We have never taken VC investment and have been profitable for the vast majority of the life of the company. Having said that, we're still in growth mode and are very entrepreneurial.
Our engineering team is relatively small and tight-knit but full of very experienced engineers. It's a great place to both have a huge impact and also an opportunity to grow your skills and learn new technology.

Our entire product and engineering organization works together in cross functional teams on business opportunities that can last from a few weeks to multiple years. All the cross functional teams are made up of product, design/ux, engineers and operations (in whatever mix makes sense for the problems at hand). These teams are formed and dissolved ad-hoc as opportunities are prioritized and completed. All the teams follow (so called little a
) agile processes. We work in weekly cycles (not sprints) and generally follow the open source
model of pull requests, CI, CD (10 deploys to production daily on average), and TDD.
We have a two sided platform that services both people trying to discover things to do as well as the people that want to sell more tickets to their events. We also integrate with ticketing system and also power other e-commerce platforms that sell live events. This makes for a very complex set of APIs, may types of users

We are the industry leader in marketing events. We send lots of email, all individually targeted and personalized with our ML based recommendation engine. All of our app/web experiences are also personalized on almost every request. We also use ML to power our search and display marketing campaigns.
A large on-going project is to use open source machine learning frameworks to develop a personalization and recommendation engine that can handle generating recommendations for 80k users per minute. Cold start is handled via ML based content analysis of the events being recommended.
