Goldstar helps over 10 million people find something great to do nearby, usually at a discount. We also power tickets on other platforms like Groupon and Yelp. We have more digital ticketing integrations than anyone else in the industry with partners like Ticketmaster, AXS, Eventbrite, Tessitura and Outbox.
Our users and partners love us. Check out our app's ratings (4.8 with 16k reviews on the iOS App Store). Ask someone that goes out a lot in New York or LA and you'll likely hear
Oh, I love Goldstar!. It's pretty great to work at a company that sells fun and is widely loved.
Our founders still run the company (CEO, CTO) and are long time internet veterans (Both met while working at Geocities). We have never taken VC investment and have been profitable for the vast majority of the life of the company. Having said that, we're still in growth mode and are very entrepreneurial.
Our engineering team is relatively small and tight-knit but full of very experienced engineers. It's a great place to both have a huge impact and also an opportunity to grow your skills and learn new technology.
Our team is highly functional and people tend to stick around for a long time. More than half the engineering team have been at Goldstar for > 4 years. For many of us, this is the longest we've ever stayed at a single job.
Our entire product and engineering organization works together in cross functional teams on business opportunities that can last from a few weeks to multiple years. All the cross functional teams are made up of product, design/ux, engineers and operations (in whatever mix makes sense for the problems at hand). These teams are formed and dissolved ad-hoc as opportunities are prioritized and completed. All the teams follow (so called
little a) agile processes. We work in weekly cycles (not sprints) and generally follow the
open source model of pull requests, CI, CD (10 deploys to production daily on average), and TDD.
We have a two sided platform that services both people trying to discover things to do as well as the people that want to sell more tickets to their events. We are the industry leader in marketing events. We send lots of email, all individually targeted and personalized with our ML based recommendation engine. All of our app/web experiences are also personalized on almost every request. We also use ML to power our search and display marketing campaigns.
A large on-going project is to use open source machine learning frameworks to develop a personalization and recommendation engine that can handle generating recommendations for 80k users per minute. Cold start is handled via ML based content analysis of the events being recommended.
Building APIs to handle selling our content on a global e-commerce leader's marketplace.
Building an ad platform with deep roots into our event marketing systems.
Two weeks of vacation for your first two years, going up to 3 weeks in your third. We allow you to go into negative vacation. We don't offer
unlimited vacation because that's a ploy to not have to pay you benefits you earn. Our vacation accrues and is yours when you earn it.
We love to celebrate with lunches and happy hours. We also cater lunch once a month for all hands. We, however, believe in a strong work/life balance so we don't offer things like dinner to try to keep you at work longer.
We encourage engineers to go to as many local conferences as they'd like and offer 1 national conference a year.
We provide health, vision and dental with a small employee contribution.
On top of stock options, we offer a Vanguard 401k.
We offer up to $5k in relocation expenses when first starting.
