We at GoSchoolBox are a passionate team of educators and technologists, providing a SaaS platform for schools to streamline and automate their tutoring operations. Our core team is based in California, comprised of four first-generation immigrants whose parents benefitted immensely from peer tutoring while pursuing the American Dream. We are paying the support our parents received forward by making educational programs easy to start and maintain for all schools, no matter how big or small. We are live in all 50 states and are here for you, just as you were for our parents.

Engineering at GoSchoolBox

Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team operates on two week sprint cycles. Each cycle begins with a meeting to discuss time estimates for features, and ends with a demo meeting where each engineer can show off the work they've completed. Engineers typically work with our Head of Product to spec a feature, then work on the feature individually or with other engineers on the team. We use Pull Requests on GitLab to conduct code reviews. All engineers are also empowered to push code to production, which we often do multiple times a day.

Technical Challenges

We're building a platform that is unifying a decentralized educational system. On one end, we are building customized, independent websites that silo educational student assessment and progress data that pertain to the student associated with that school district. What is technically difficult (and exciting) is to be able to have that student then migrate their Learning Profile from one school district's website to another school district's platform or to a 3rd Party educational provider, like AVID, which is an organization that works with students across multiple school districts.

Projects you might work on
  • This past year, our engineers have built out Calendly or Formative app experiences directly into our partner platforms to make our platform seamless for students to book sessions off of the availability of the tutors that they work within the private platform and more easily allow tutors to track assessment data from the sessions they hold with their students.

  • A unified district roster syncing API that is able to sync entire school districts' rosters and can work with any type of rostering API, whether it be with Clever, ClassLink, or One Roster. The framework can be extended to work with other different types of rostering services in a consolidated way.

  • Building a React Native iOS and Android app for our partners to log in with completely from scratch.
