Gravitational's software and services help enterprises deliver and run cloud-native applications in multi-cloud environments where compliance matters. We currently offer two open-source solutions:
Teleport is a modern security gateway (with ~7k Github stars) for remotely accessing clusters of Linux servers or Kubernetes clusters (https://github.com/gravitational/teleport).
Gravity is a Kubernetes packaging solution that reduces the operational burden of on-prem deployments (https://github.com/gravitational/gravity).
Experienced team, rapid growth and profitable
Gravitational is a Y Combinator company (YC-S15) started by experienced founders that previously founded Mailgun (YC-W11), which was acquired by Rackspace. Last year, Gravitational grew revenue 2x (w/ license revenue 3x) and we were profitable, with over 15% net profit. You will be working with a small, experienced and nimble team to improve this performance in 2019 and beyond. We will grow as fast as possible without putting the business at risk.
Culture focused on engineering excellence and work/life balance
The company currently consists mostly of engineers that are hackers at heart. We do not have VCs on our board, we rely on our beliefs, on data, and on customer feedback to drive our roadmaps. We are focused on creating a working environment for people to produce their best work. We love helping open source communities and other engineers to get things done.
We are also dedicated to our friends, families, and hobbies outside of work. We get things done efficiently in the office so we have more time to spend on activities outside the office.
Great comp and benefits
We offer competitive compensation and benefits. You will be receiving a competitive salary and the same restricted stock structure as the founders (no need to purchase options if you leave!). You also get to choose the ratio of the stock / salary compensation within a range.
In addition, we offer platinum level healthcare insurance, 401k matching up to 5%, commuter benefits and snacks / beverages in the office. The Oakland office location may be especially appealing to those in the East Bay but even the reverse commute from SF is easy since we are close to Bart.
The engineering team is currently split into two groups: the web team which maintains our web presence and the product team responsible for adding features and improvements to our products. We are not a SaaS company, we build open source tools, so
deploying to production is not a thing. Instead, we organize our work around Github issues and milestones where community plays a big role.
Our products are downloaded and ran by other engineers on their own servers. This means that we can't make too many assumptions about customers environments, yet we still have to deliver the promised benefits such as security, compliance, reduced operational overhead and ease of use. This requires a special engineering culture to address performance, user friendliness and failure modes differently, i.e. to help users resolve issues by themselves.
Build a SAML authentication gateway between a provider such as Github and an SSH certificate authority using Golang.
Implement a terminating HTTPS/SSH proxy which would record all traffic into configurable back-end so it could be replayed later, using Golang.
Build a lightweight Web Dashboard using React (front-end) and Golang (back-end) for customers to be able to log in, manage their product subscriptions and payment options.
We are focused on creating an environment where people can work efficiently and produce their best work, learn and advance their careers, and have a life outside the office. We offer the following benefits:
We have snacks and drinks available all day. On Fridays we like to have team lunches at restaurants in Jack London Square.
We have a beautiful office with a gorgeous view of the bay. No open floor plan, we prefer smaller, separate rooms to encourage the focus needed for good creative work.
We have an annual team retreat filled with activities and events. Last year our retreat was in Toronto Canada.
We offer 401k matching up to 5%
- 4-weeks of Paid Time Off (+ 5 sick days)
Well behaved pets welcome!
We encourage work related conference attendance and will fund travel and accommodations.
Six weeks paid family leave (in addition to PTO) with extensions available.
90% of premiums paid for platinum level health care and dental / vision coverage.
Subsidized public transportation up to California pre-tax maximum.
We can relocate you to any of our 3 offices: Oakland/CA, Seattle/WA or Toronto/Canada.
