Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team operates on an 8 week feature release cycle with a 2 week bug release cycle. Major features are assigned a tech lead who is responsible for ensuring the design, implementation, and documentation is appropriately executed throughout the release cycle. Engineers often identify critical needs and help drive the feature schedule while our program managers ensure the features are appropriately prioritized and align with customer needs.

Technical Challenges

We are building an unstructured data processing system that is designed to provide extremely flexible query and response. Our platform has modules to tackle everything from traffic analysis, flows, and logs. On top of the core platform is an automation engine, access control system, metrics engine, and visualization system. There are few aspects of DevOps, cyber security, and business operations that we don't touch. Whether you do low level high speed storage interfaces, machine learning, or elegant data visualizations; we have a pillar that touches it.

Projects you might work on
  • Building our distribution automation system to allow for automated response to events collected.

  • Help build out our visualization system to provide more interactive visualizations to help humans gain insight into potentially petabytes of data.

  • Build out query and operations modules to slice and dice unstructured data and provide automated insights using statistical models, machine learning, or feature enrichment.

  • Extend our distributed data storage system to provide fault tolerant and efficient access whether it be in a cloud environment or on prem.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Gravwell we know it can be difficult to jump into a new organization or large tech stack. During on boarding each hire is assigned a more senior mentor to act as their guide and help the transition into the company. We actively hire PhDs in CS and CE as well people without formal education in the specific area. We have seen first hand how new perspectives can shake bad foundations and improve product and culture.

We are still a small company, as such it is extremely important for us to get the culture right so that as we grow we have a solid foundation to stand on. That means that new employees have a direct relationship with our founders and C-levels; and we make it a point to do regular updates on company progress, good and bad.

Our on boarding and mentor ship system is two way, while we attempt to select right mentor engineer we make it a point to help new candidates understand the roles and personalities of our staff so that they get the right mentor.
