Founded in 2016 by David Callis and Todd Gower, Hiatus was created with one mission in mind: to help millions of Americans improve their financial wellness. With over 500,000 users in all 50 states, the Hiatus app offers personalized financial advice designed to help you address everything from uncompetitive interest rates to forgotten subscriptions. By combining machine intelligence, behavioral design, and innovative partnerships, our team is building a more intuitive way for people to make financial progress.
While we don't strictly adhere to any software development methodology, we naturally embrace Agile principles like iterative development, adaptive planning and frequent releases. This allows us to respond to the results of a project quicker. A feature usually starts as a UI mockup inspired by community feedback. The mockup is then collaboratively reviewed by our designer and mobile developer. Once the UI is understood and agreed upon, the mobile and backend teams work together to build the feature. Code is reviewed using GitHub pull requests. All commits are then built and distributed via our CI service so we can see daily updates on a real device.
We are not afraid to experiment with new tech and eagerly await AWS re:Invent and WWDC each year.
On the backend side: continuous integration and automated testing in a distributed system; microservices implemented with Serverless; streaming architectures using AWS Kinesis
On the mobile side: creating a unique experience that is tailored to each individual user using feature flagging and our experimentation engine
You would help build a feature that identifies when users are paying too much for their insurance coverage and onboards them to a lower-cost provider.
You would work on a transactions API that imports a user's financial data and structures the data in a dynamic format that can be used to make financial recommendations.
Our idea of a perfect culture is working alongside world-class people who sincerely care about eliminating financial stress and anxiety. We maintain an environment of self-discipline that has allowed us to run informally as we scale our teams and have found that those who thrive at Hiatus all seem to balance curiosity and horsepower with an ability to articulate and simplify.
