We operate a global network of drone operators and drivers with dashcams who collect map imagery for our global map. Through our decentralized approach, we're able to offer fresher and higher resolution imagery than traditional satellite companies at a fraction of the price. We offer an on-demand API to access map data.

Engineering team and processes

We ascribe to industry standard best practices while balancing velocity with quality. We are extremely data driven and prefer to drive our engineering and R&D with continuous scientifically sound experimentation.

We are currently operating by planning work in one month epics, and then moving forward week by week with loosely metered sprints (we're biased towards moving fast and evaluating ourselves based on data-driven outcomes and products vs. bookkeeping sprint points).

Our engineering org is structured by product verticals and one horizontal (platform engineering). We meet in larger groups regularly to brainstorm and share ideas across verticals and encourage open discourse.

Technical Challenges

We process huge amounts of imagery data to produce maps and interactive 3D data. We are constantly juggling optimizations across product, R&D, and infrastructure to support huge data ingest. For example, we are currently manufacturing our own hardware to exploit edge processing.

Projects you might work on
  • You would work on on making our processing cluster more efficient by creating a low level paradigm we can use to for autoscaling. Our Machine Learning and Computer Vision processing jobs require 10s of GBs of memory, and we're continuously looking to scale our capacity up by 10x.

  • You would work on a robust and highly performant customer API and content delivery scheme. Our customers look to ingest arbitrarily large amounts of data in on-demand settings, so we have to be equipped to observe the state of our system and be able to scale up to meet demand.

  • You would work on a full-stack processing pipeline to turn imagery into interactive 3D experiences.
