Hone is reimagining leadership, management and people-skills training for modern, distributed teams. Traditional corporate classroom training is inconvenient and ineffective (70% is forgotten within a day). Pre-recorded e-learning videos are impersonal and ill-suited for interactive people skills training. Hone is the first scaled platform and marketplace for live online, synchronous, instructor-led training classes for leadership, management and soft skills. Our unique solution allows organizations to source, manage and deliver live online video-based training and measure its impact.

Founded by Tom Griffiths (co-founder, head of product for gaming unicorn FanDuel) we're building a brand new way to experience training at work, and would love you to help us.

  • Founded by experienced founders, Hone CEO Tom Griffiths previously co-founded gaming unicorn FanDuel and scaled it from zero to $140m revenue in six years. He led product there from day one, so cares deeply about building product development-led businesses and cultures. Co-founders Savina Perez and Jeremy Hamel are experienced HR technology executives with successful previous exits.

  • We're building a unique solution to a global education problem: how to effectively train leaders and managers. We're a purpose driven company, and as well as tackling the $30bn US market for leadership training, we're committed to providing better access to these skills to people from all backgrounds around the world.

  • Our growth has been 30% month on month since launching pilots in summer 2018, and led to us receive an over-subscribed seed funding round of $3.6m from Aileen Lee at Cowboy Ventures, Harrison Metal (funded Masterclass), Slack Fund and others in December 2018. Engineering at Hone Group

Engineering team and processes

We are currently two engineers working full-stack. We use a Kanban-style approach to moving work divided into user stories through our process, that starts with customer development conversations, ideation, collaborative story writing and standard agile practices to get to delivery (prioritization, standups, retrospectives). Being a young company we still have a lot of maturity to come in terms of process, environments and infrastructure, but being in at the ground level will allow you to help shape our best practices there.

Technical Challenges

Initially, we're building a high-quality cross-platform user experience that is a hybrid of human teaching over video call and a companion platform for reinforcement, measurement and community. Over time we will be innovating in the live video experience, and using data analysis of the video content to improve our teaching.

Projects you might work on
  • Build the MVP of our organization insights platform to allow companies to oversee and measure the impact of their training as a responsive web experience.

  • Build the MVP of our learner experience platform, that allows them to chat with other learners and instructors across platform.

  • Build the insights engine that looks at data coming in from an organization's training and highlights matters that need the organization's attention (e.g. individual learners not succeeding for additional support).

We're a scrappy, early stage company with significant startup leadership experience, so balance the move fast and make it up approach with an early maturity, and principles-based approach to our work. We have a few remote team members so function remote-first which allows people to work from home (or elsewhere) as they like. We care about our mission, and have little ego in the way we go about our work.
