HopSkipDrive is a mission-driven company whose goal is to give all kids access to opportunity through mobility. Founded in 2014, HopSkipDrive is the most caring, tech-enabled transportation solution for families and K-12 schools, non-profits, and kid-based businesses. The company is building a national transportation network that connects schools & families with trusted CareDrivers, who get kids wherever they need to go safely, reliably and economically. CareDrivers must have a minimum of 5 years of caregiving experience and pass a rigorous 15-point certification process, which includes extensive background checks, fingerprinting, DMV checks, driver training, and an in-person meeting with HopSkipDrive staff.
HopSkipDrive is reshaping K-12 transportation. We help schools and families get kids where they need to go safely and dependably. We were founded by 3 working moms who have 8 kids among them and who developed HopSkipDrive as a solution to their own problems getting kids where they needed to go. We are a VC-backed company with investment and involvement from nearly every major LA investor including Upfront Ventures, Greycroft and Pritzker, with more than $20M in funding.
We are based in downtown LA. Our mission, our enormous market potential, our team and the technology challenges we are solving make HopSkipDrive one of LA’s hottest startups and an all-around awesome place to work.
We've expanded to 3 new cities this year and are on track to expand to 10-15 more cities next year. HopSkipDrive is the only ride share service for kids that operates in multiple states, and we are the industry leader.
Our team consists of senior software engineers who are collaborative, have scaled other tech companies, and are fun to work with.
We are founded by the best VC firms in LA, including Upfront, and also by the 3rd largest school bus company in the world. Our funders have valuable, unique perspectives that give us an edge in this industry.
We work in 2-week sprints. The week before the sprint starts, engineering lead and product owners meet to decide features and bugs for next sprint. Engineers and product finalize requirements. The Friday before the sprint starts, the team meets to go over the plan for next sprint. Retrospective every 2 weeks. On a daily basis each person on the team fills out a scrum report using a Slackbot; the scrum report is published at 10:30am to the whole team. The team has a very flat structure and everyone is empowered to make suggestions and lead projects.
We're building solutions for the Traveling Salesman Problem that are specific to our service of optimizing both on-time-rate and number of rides per driver. We also are an operationally complex business and must constantly find ways to provide the safest service possible using a combination of people and technology.
You would work on building a flight-control-like system for monitoring rides.
You would work on building a two-sided marketplace that can handle millions of combinations of schedules and that can find the optimal schedule for a driver in seconds.
You would work on building web apps for customers to be able to manage thousands of trips in an easy way. Think Google Calendar plus Kayak plus Gmail.
We value ownership and hustle. Everyone is empowered to shape the future of the company and there's a sense of pride and commitment that comes from doing something that truly shapes the lives of kids and families.
