We give the people fighting financial crimes superpowers. Our service is designed to enhance anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing investigations. It reduces cumbersome paperwork, provides insightful analytics, and enables collaboration for compliance professionals and law enforcement agents.
We’re on a mission to turn the tables against criminals who pollute our financial system. Modern criminals are sophisticated, tech-savvy, and agile. The tools used to fight financial crimes should be, too.
You will be writing software to help to fight financial crime, thereby contributing to the fight against fraud and money laundering, and all that hides behind it. These are not victimless, white-collar crimes. The people who launder money are primarily engaged in distributing drugs, human trafficking, and the illegal sales of guns.
Our team has deep technical experience, as well as deep regulatory experience. The technical team hails from Square, Circle, Apple and IDEO. The regulatory team comes from KPMG, Treliant Risk Advisors, the Treasury Department, and other associated bodies.
You will be one of the first engineers at Hummingbird outside of the founding team, and will be instrumental in building the product and supporting infrastructure. As part of our small, expert product team, you will make a tremendous impact on the product, the codebase and the culture of our growing company. You will also have the opportunity to learn and participate in just about every part of running a company.
Our normal process uses is to create a PR on Github. All PR's must be code reviewed and pass tests before they can be merged to master. All PR's must also have tests to accompany the code changes. Once master pasts tests with the latest commit, it's automatically deployed to our staging environment.
We handle data around payments, loans, securities, banking activity, international remittances, and cryptocurrencies. All of this data needs to be handled with security and privacy in mind.
Our customers send us a wide variety of data, in many different formats. We have to detect and classify the type of data coming in, and parse it appropriately into a common schema.
Build a simple machine learning model to detect common money-laundering patterns from a large set of transaction data.
We know how to make trade offs when building features and systems.
We are comfortable with ambiguity.
Nothing is precious. We love the process and the iteration. We're not married to specific ideas or solutions, and regularly throw out work.
We want to be more than hands on a keyboard, and know that our impact goes beyond the lines of code we write.
We're honest with ourselves and our peers about our strengths, weaknesses and what we can accomplish. We're constantly questioning our assumptions.
We care about correctness, automated testing and data security. We are careful and methodical and incorporate security into our thinking at every stage of development.
We want to learn, and know that we can. We like digging deeply into new technologies, new domains or new ideas. We're excited to take on something we've never done before.
We constantly ask ourselves what our top priorities are and if we're supporting the overall goals of the company.
We want to build something incredibly valuable and have real impact on the world. We're excited to get our hands dirty in pursuit of that goal.
We care about productivity, not hours. Most of us are around from 10am - 6pm, but working remotely or working more flexible hours are part of our culture.
We work from home when we want to.
Hummingbird offers two months of paid maternity and paternity leave. If local or national law stipulates longer leave, we will follow the law.
Hummingbird has an unlimited vacation policy.
Hummingbird provides standard medical, vision, and dental insurance. We use UnitedHealthcare for medical insurance, and Guardian for vision and dental insurance.
We are a remote team now, but we try to all get together twice a year.
