imgix is an easy-to-use hosted service that makes images on the Internet impactful, engaging, responsive, and super performant.
Any website that hosts images would benefit from using imgix. The market potential is huge and our clients include Eventbrite, Kickstarter, Vimeo, RE/MAX, Starz, and many more.
Our team of engineers is responsible for serving billions of images every day. Every team member has the opportunity to deliver maximum impact.
Founded by ex-YouTube employee Chris Zacharias, imgix is a Y Combinator-founded startup that is focused on building a real-time, on-demand, image processing and delivery service.
Our engineering team uses a light form of agile that uses two-week sprints and a daily standup that is less than 10 minutes a day. The most important part of our process is our retrospective meeting at the end of each sprint, where we talk about what went well, what didn't, and what we should change moving forward.
We use Github for code reviews, use automated tests where they are the most useful, and ship features as they are completed. While project priorities are ultimately set by the product team, everyone contributes and offers feedback on what issues should take priority and the engineering team gets 10-20% time to tackle engineering-focused projects, such as refactoring and technical debt.
Because our service is such a core part of our clients' businesses, scalability and reliability are key. We need to be able to process billions of requests with a near perfect success rate, and we do it all in real-time and on-demand.
A past project was architecting and building a brand new purger, which allows our customers to delete images from our caches to serve new images. This system must be reliable and super fast, and is complicated by the fact that imgix makes heavy use of multiple caches for performance.
Use airflow to schedule regular analytics jobs that alert us to self-service clients whose usage patterns could be better served by becoming a premium customer.
imgix is an engineering-driven company that values teamwork and ownership. We believe good ideas can come from anywhere and since our product is for engineers, our devs already understand our audience. We are a team that eats lunch together and plays Nintendo Switch in the evenings. Absolutely no jerks allowed.
imgix has a flexible vacation policy and we encourage our employees to take time off when they need it.
We cater lunch 4 days a week. On Wednesdays, most of us visit the food trucks nearby or head to our favorite sandwich place.
Our most productive team hours are between 11am and 5pm, but some engineers work earlier or later hours outside of that window; it's just a matter of personal preference.
We provide full medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and a spouse or domestic partner.
Our Nintendo Switch sees usage almost daily, we have quarterly team events (bowling, mini golf, arcade, etc.) and we go to at least one Sharks game and one Giants game every year.
We have commuter benefits where you can use pre-tax money to pay for your commuter costs. We are located an easy walk from both Caltrain and Bart and less than a block away from a GoBike station.
imgix has a 401(k) plan so you can save for your retirement.
We offer both Maternal and Paternal leave, which can be supplemented with flexible vacation time.
