Why join us?
Any website that hosts images would benefit from using imgix. The market potential is huge and our clients include Eventbrite, Kickstarter, Vimeo, RE/MAX, Starz, and many more.
Our team of engineers is responsible for serving billions of images every day. Every team member has the opportunity to deliver maximum impact.
Founded by ex-YouTube employee Chris Zacharias, imgix is a Y Combinator-founded startup that is focused on building a real-time, on-demand, image processing and delivery service.
Engineering at imgix
Our engineering team uses a light form of agile that uses two-week sprints and a daily standup that is less than 10 minutes a day. The most important part of our process is our retrospective meeting at the end of each sprint, where we talk about what went well, what didn't, and what we should change moving forward.
We use Github for code reviews, use automated tests where they are the most useful, and ship features as they are completed. While project priorities are ultimately set by the product team, everyone contributes and offers feedback on what issues should take priority and the engineering team gets 10-20% time to tackle engineering-focused projects, such as refactoring and technical debt.
Because our service is such a core part of our clients' businesses, scalability and reliability are key. We need to be able to process billions of requests with a near perfect success rate, and we do it all in real-time and on-demand.
A past project was architecting and building a brand new purger, which allows our customers to delete images from our caches to serve new images. This system must be reliable and super fast, and is complicated by the fact that imgix makes heavy use of multiple caches for performance.
Use airflow to schedule regular analytics jobs that alert us to self-service clients whose usage patterns could be better served by becoming a premium customer.
