We operate on two-week sprints in the context of broader release milestones. Engineers work together to define the stories, chores, and bugs needing to be fixed to support a release milestone that aligns with our customers' requests. Stories may undergo architectural reviews, otherwise they are prioritized by a product owner and slated for upcoming sprints. We use sprint planning meetings to estimate our workloads and daily stand-ups to stay in sync throughout the sprint. We encourage pull requests with code reviews, and we accept stories throughout our sprints so that we can deploy daily, multiple times a day, provided that our builds pass our automated test suite.
Every second, we receive a request from a national bank asking us to analyze driver's licenses, paystubs, bank statements, utility bills, tax returns, etc... to validate application data. Our software has to respond in less than a minute with >98% precision and an incredibly high degree of recall. We deal with endless variation of document types, formats, and scan qualities. Our team of annotators is always expanding our ground truth dataset, enabling us to validate our software's output and re-train our machine learning models to improve performance.
