Instrumental makes intelligent, data-driven tools to help companies identify issues on their assembly lines so they can ship higher quality products faster.
Why join us?
Our Founders are addressing a problem they know well — our CEO was the system design lead for the first generation of the Apple Watch and our founders have spent hundreds of days on manufacturing lines.
While manufacturing is advancing, most assembly is still manual — not autonomous. We're collecting key data about how things are made and where things break in the process in order to be at the forefront of autonomous assembly in the future.
We're a collaborative, low-ego team that enjoys tackling challenges together. It's all about the people.
Engineering at Instrumental
Our engineering team is currently flat, operating around agile processes consisting of sprint planning, retrospectives, and a collaborative effort on development in between.
We are a combination of cloud services (web application) and
on-premise (inspection station software) to serve the data we collect. We provide a practical and incredibly functional use case for machine learning and computer vision.
Our most recent feature,
Monitor, intelligently learns what units need further investigating without having a
golden unitto compare against. You can read the full press-release here: https://www.instrumental.com/blog/2017/11/9/monitor-automatic-intelligent-inspection-for-hardware-development-and-production
Working at Instrumental
We have a few living core values:
- Act like an owner: we take initiative, find problems, and all roll up our sleeves to fix them.
- Be low ego and be helpful: we prioritize helping each other, answering all questions, and fostering an atmosphere of being a safe place for all ideas.
- Proceed deliberately: from our engineering to our hiring, we strive to be intentional and specific, with clearly articulated reasons for all actions.
- Carry the burden of the tenth man: even when we're all in agreement, we consider the opposing viewpoint to ensure we're truly making the best decision possible.
We have a flexible time off policy, observe ten company holidays, and have shut down the last week of December every year we've been in business.
We provide full health insurance for all Instrumentalists' and their dependents.
We have pre-tax commuter benefits.
We have regular team outings, including ones that do not revolve around alcohol as this icon suggests.
If you're re-locating to the Bay Area to join Instrumental, we'll make sure to help off-set these costs.
We have a stipend available for those interested in relevant conferences or workshops — we just ask you share this information with the broader team upon return!
We eat lunch as a team at least once a week, but we do not have catering every day.
