Ivy Energy is evolving the way shared real estate communities create, use, and think about energy. Ivy’s Virtual Grid generates incremental revenue for real estate owners while providing tenants with equitable access to sustainable clean energy resources.

Our Virtual Grid platform enables real estate owners to become clean energy resource “hosts” and tenants to be intelligent “users” of onsite shared clean energy resources. By reshaping a community’s energy load profile through incentivizing “Saving” & “Earning” based on localized data points, aggregated value economics, and a simple end-user experience.

We have a flat organization structure within the engineering team, with one tech lead and one project manager.

Engineering Processes: - Daily scrum meetings to discuss progress and blockers - Sprint planning - Sprint retrospective meetings for reflection - Weekly technical meetings to dive into specific challenges we are facing - Code reviews

Technical Challenges

Building an intelligent system. Many customers have unique data requests, physical configurations, or face different challenges. To deal with this wide variety of use cases, we need to build an intelligent system that can accommodate different variations of the same core application.

Scaling and Growth Scaling our system to thousands and hundreds of thousands of users. Our MVP was built to support our first customers. As we grow, we need to make sure our system can keep up.

Projects you might work on
  • Backend Core The backend consists of calculations, logic, and algorithms that are the backbone to our core product offering. This can be thought of as a very complex calculator that processes data for a wide variety of scenarios.

  • Internal Web Application The internal web application used by our product operations team. Used for new customer set up and ongoing operations. It can be thought of as the management layer that controls the variables for the backend processes.

    PDF Generation One of our core deliverables to our end user is a solar bill as a PDF. This project was to dynamically generate a PDF file based on a combination of the data created from the web application and the backend.

  • Internal REST API This is a API layer servicing the backend and frontend web applications.

    Third Party API Integrations Data Integrations One of the requirements for our core product offering is energy usage data. As such, getting that data into our system is an ongoing focus. This means using the APIs available from third parties to map and import data into our system.

    Energy Tools There are a variety of tools available that use utility data to give insights into energy cost and usage. We integrate with these tools as part of our core backend process.
