We're a travel planning service that pairs travelers 1-on-1 with a personal trip designer to plan custom trips including hotel, activities, restaurants, cafes, shopping, and more. We use automation to make our trip designers more efficient, allowing us to offer our planning services for a flat rate of $25-$50 per day of a person's trip.
We 5x'ed revenue last year, which led to closing a seed round in 2 days led by Menlo Ventures.
We have 55-60% gross margins on our trip planning fees with the tools we've built so far.
Our product helps travelers explore across cultures and borders more deeply, meaningfully, and authentically. Over 40% of our customers found out about us from recommendations from friends and colleagues, and another 30% of customers each month have used us before on a prior trip.
We work in 2 week sprints and have a daily standup to demo progress and discuss any challenges / questions that come up. User stories are tracked in Trello and because we have a flexible work-from-home, work-while-traveling policy, most discussions happen in Slack throughout the day. We ship continuously during the 2 week sprint cycles. At the end of each cycle, we discuss priorities for the next sprint and spec out features and approaches with relevant business partners and designers.
- Building automation into our trip designers' workflow to further reduce the time it takes to build an itinerary
- Utilizing the data from over 5000 trips we've planned to show users a preview of an itinerary they might get that matches their most important travel criteria
- Building a solution to help travelers figure out where they should go on their next trip based on time of year, number of days available, trip goals, and budget
One of the most time consuming parts of building an itinerary is writing the descriptions for each day of the itinerary which provides travelers a high-level summary and shows travelers how the trip was personalized to them. This can take 20-30 minutes (up to 25% of the total amount of time it takes to deliver an itinerary). We're currently exploring using NLP to structure existing database fields to string together paragraph summaries.
We're building a machine learning algorithm to show our trip designers a ranking of past itineraries in our database we previously planned that are most similar to the current customer's preferences. This helps with productivity of the trip designer team, but also allows us to show customers a preview of their trip to increase conversion.
We're also completing a full redesign of our iOS app in React Native, and in the process of moving all of our front-end UI to a React framework.
