We are a Y Combinator and venture-backed startup company that creates cinematic online courses about entrepreneurship.
There are over 1.3 million college students majoring in business in the United States today, but the classes they take are hideously outdated and irrelevant to their future careers.
Our team is approaching online learning in a completely new way: combining educational content with compelling stories, captivating cinematography, creative soundtracks, and much more. The result is a beautiful course that feels like a movie.
Jumpcut is where the next generation of entrepreneurs will be developed. Our online courses help people improve the skills they need in order to turn their passions into a successful business.
We believe the future of education lies in creating world-class content. That’s where Jumpcut comes in. We aim to create binge-worthy, addictive educational courses.
Students are ready for this new world. We’re ready. If you'd like to be a part of this fast-growing company and join us in changing the course of online education, please apply formally through our website: jumpcut.com/careers.
Jumpcut started out in a one-bedroom apartment with just four team members back in 2014. Since then, we've grown into a multi-million dollar business employing over 50 people (and counting) in 9 countries. In 2018, we have increased our revenue by 400%, have over 10,000 active users in our platform, and we are aiming to release 25 courses by 2022. You can be a part of all of this and contribute to changing how the education system works all over the world.
We take good care of our employees and we are open to applicants from any background. Other than having an open vacation policy, we also provide our employees with catered meals daily, the best PPO plan money can buy in California, and a wellness program. While we do have a high standard for our hires, we do not discriminate at all and will happily consider any applicant regardless of their race, sexuality, gender identity, and/or what culture or background they come from.
At Jumpcut, you will have a lot of opportunities for growth. Our #1 goal is to make sure that the work you do, every single day, helps you improve not only your current skill set, but your future ones as well. You will have countless chances to take on bigger projects and have more responsibilities, work with people from different departments, and if you're really good, transition to a management position.
We run a loose Kanban process, pull requests, and a custom workflow. Otherwise, everything is completely open for our developers because we want to give them as much freedom as possible. Our engineers meet on Monday mornings to discuss everyone’s work plan, ensure all tasks are on track, and deploy outstanding PRs to production. When someone finishes a feature, the engineers create a test plan for it then assign it to the Engineering Manager.
We’re trying to revolutionize online business education by first building the fundamental features that support our products such as (1) a custom video player that will allow students to not only sit back and absorb knowledge, but be actively engaged in the learning; (2) an in-house messenger / chat to promote accountability and mentorship between a cohort of students; and (3) group and live discussion features that encourage more real-time work together that replicates a university setting.
We’re conceptualizing and developing innovative tools that help educate the next generation of entrepreneurs. A few ideas are (1) captivating and interactive videos (like our jumpcut.com/careers page) in order to cultivate microlearning and allow users to adapt the pace of progress to their own abilities and time; (2) gamification of courses to help students relate to the course content better, boost their performance, and drive their engagement rates; and (3) web apps that make learning fun and collaborative to provide students more motivation for development (challenges and teamwork + prizes + social media live).
We have an incredible amount feedback of data that we haven’t even began to tap into. We definitely need a data science team to help go through what we have so that we can optimize our marketing, our platform, and the overall user experience from prospect to paid customer.
We’ve created a custom platform to host digital course content, manage sales funnels/campaigns, create new enrollment pages, and search up user information. We have three full length courses already.
We’ve built a custom community forum with user profile pages, video upload functionality, and a collaborate feature.
We’re planning on building an interactive custom video player with resume playback options, clickable elements, and calls-to-action.
Jumpcut is trying to replace the education system in the United States by offering a replacement for current higher education institutions. We offer courses on business and entrepreneurship that are relevant, skills-based training programs that help anybody, regardless of experience, make a living doing a job or starting a business that they love.
Fundamentally, Jumpcut exists to help people grow. That's our first company value, and our courses grow our student's skills (and, by extension, their economic outcomes), so that they can live better lives.
In order to create our educational courses, we hire people from a diverse set of industries (and from a wide variety of educational backgrounds) who can contribute unique perspectives on how to best prepare a new generation of students for success – from creating captivating content that our students actually watch to the end, to creating a community of like-minded entrepreneurs to network and learn from.
Our company value of helping people grow extends equally to our employees as well. We believe that life is a never-ending journey in becoming a better, smarter, more empathetic, and more mission-driven person — our goal is to support each and every one of our employees as they move along their own path.
Emotionally, we feel like a family. Logistically, we operate as a sports team. We have a specific mission and we're all here to make sure it comes to life. We strive to provide a open, transparent, warm, and inviting work environment, where we regularly share our emotions with each other, as that's integral and fundamentally necessary for us to stay a high performing team.
We’re an extremely diverse organization, between our business units as well as our locations around the world, and we've designed our physical (office) and online (Slack) space to encourage as much collaboration and transparency as possible. Our culture ensures that ideas from every corner of the world are heard, and that information that is created in one area extends itself to every other location in the world.
In both our students and our employees, our goal is to lift them up from their current circumstances in life and become their champions and guides in their path to economic sustainability. Our mission is to create a fairer, more effective educational environment for not only the US, but the world.
We have an open vacation policy. Take a vacation whenever you need it — we don't count days.
