We are using a SCRUM methodology with 6 weeks release cycle. We divide the release into 3 sprints of 2 weeks. The first 2 sprints are spent on features development and the last sprint is focused on integration and regression testing. The team encourages everyone to be very hands-on except managers, and have a clearly defined hierarchy of seniority from engineer, to senior engineer, lead engineer, principal engineer and architect. Even architects don't have direct reports and are expected to spend 50% of their time coding and the rest of their time coaching the team and designing solutions. We have a very strong UX and PM team we closely work with on roadmap, release scoping and ongoing execution. Most of the engineers are located in San Mateo, California, but we also have a small remote team in Beijing with mostly QA.
The engineering team is working on a variety of interesting challenges from data streaming, to batch data processing, to data science and tensorflows, advanced UI, open APIs strategy, container orchestration and configuration bootstrapping, etc...
You would get to work on our next generation data streaming architecture to help doing real time model scoring based on users behaviors.
You would get to work on our data science pipeline to move our python processing from Hadoop/YARN to Kubernete and Docker containers.
You would rearchitect our application to remove dependency from Hadoop HDFS and leverage S3 as a storage layer
You would work on data engineering project to integrate and prepare data from multiple customers sources using metadata based configuration
You would help building our micro-services stack to enable continuous deployment and services versioning and services isolations
You would implement various algorithms defined by the data science team in python, using Anaconda and tensorflow
You would redesign our current data processing pipeline to leverage Spark, Airflow and Beam
We have very talented people with a lot of data scientists and PhD working at the company. We take our culture very seriously and our core values are: - create visible value - stay accountable - trade places - embrace your quirkiness - communicate respectfully - find a mentor/be a mentor - celebrate what's great - be a steward

Most of engineers are in the office between 10am and 6pm but we don't have hard rules around it. We prefer people to attend the scrum standups which are typically in the morning. We have a no meeting day on Wednesday where only managers are allowed to have meetings. You can work from home once a week unless you have a special agreement with your management.
Provided by Sequoia, very good coverage.
One day a week, typically on Wednesday.
People organize themselves for different activities, we typically have quarterly outing for the engineering team and a few events during the year organized at the company level e.g. Summer picnic, Christmas Party, etc...
We offer a relocation package to help for new employees coming out of state.
We have a great office space in San Mateo with easy access from the freeway. We have plenty of space for the team and keep expending the team as well as the traditional amenities you would expect with pingpong and foosball table :)
