LEX is a real estate investing platform giving the everyday investor access to direct investments in commercial real estate for the first time.

Users can browse individual properties (ranging from Office space to Retail centers to Multifamily), buy $100 shares (the IPO price) in each building, earn their share of rental income, and then trade those shares on LEX. We're playing within the existing regulations and financial rails, but we have a lot to build!

We're a venture backed startup (15 people) with over $5M in seed funding, working to unlock real estate for the masses.

Engineering at LEX

Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team is small and has a flat structure, so you'll fully own most components you're working on. We run in 1 week sprints and have a quick (10 min) checkin/standup each day. We have a full time product designer as well. We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews, and don't have a fixed/rigid deploy cycle currently.

Technical Challenges

We're building a brokerage platform and trading system that will operate at scale. We'll scale cautiously at first and have knobs to limit volume, but expect to handle hundreds-to-thousands of messages per second within a year of its launch.

Projects you might work on
  • Developing our online investment platform which is a responsive web app written in Typescript built on Mongo+Node+Express+React

  • Building and maintaining APIs used by our web app and iOS app

  • Building APIs for the market data from our trading system, so our app servers can retrieve that data to display to clients.

We're highly collaborative since the real estate, compliance and engineering paths are all very intertwined. Scrappiness is important. You may need to learn a new framework or search for existing open source alternatives rather than building a company need from scratch.

    As an engineer, we'll generally hope that you overlap with the rest of the team by being online from 10AM until 5PM. But we don't have rules around this, and whether you start before then or stay later is up to you. If you need an off day, feel free to take one! We care about output week-to-week, not hours worked per day.
